low effort video, as usual

Have any of you guys that reached that scenario for the first time in Cry for the Weeper and when that part in the Leitmotif kicks in and then you just stand there staring at this vastness of red or is it just me?

The fact that the music in this level felt like everything all coming together in a beautiful symphony of fucking insanity makes me so excited for what the hell the 9-1 ost will be.

I really love 6-1.
I opened the door and was greeted with red.
I was like, “when the hell did I get to hell?” as if I wasn’t committing mass genocide on hell’s population on the previous levels.

When I first figured out that 6-1 used some inspiration from 3-1, goosebumps flooded my skin and I was absolutely in love. This game is so fucking good.

I feel like when people discuss this game on the internet they often leave out the subtle melancholy behind it all. There's no denying that jumping through hell slaughtering everything is rad as shit, but if you take a second to actually analyze what's going on around you, you realize you're fighting in a system that's collapsing in on itself and barely functioning, with the people at the top being clueless and incompetent as this once great empire breaks in half from overload. It's part of the reason why I think the act 2 ending (both levels of heresy and the cutscene after) is so good: it pauses for a moment to bring all those lingering feelings you didn't know you were feeling right into the spotlight. There's a reason why the first song you hear in the game is "the fire is gone". You're playing a tragedy.

This backing track combined with the reveal as you drop into the main part of 6-1 just makes for such an impactful moment. You've been bouncing through hell, slaughtering everything in your path, but this? This is *hell.*

When this part kicked in, I started thinking:
"Oh my God, I've killed everything..."

This part made me realize how much of this game was. The MOST game ever tbh.

Honestly, it makes Altars of Apostasy one of the best Ultrakill Songs. Like holy shit the amount of adrenaline but the feeling of regret is pumped into one song.

It feels like a genuine cry of help, like an aftermath of a rage-fuelled battle, when both sides are exhausted and maybe even on the brink of death, when thay question thier motives and if that was even worth it, from deep guitars, fueling andrenalin right into you fucking heart with a bigass syringe to crying high pitch tones, begging you to stop and think, like the sax in 5-1, such themes were present only in lust, as it was a town of pacificsts and limbo, as to trick you, but not in greed, as they were ready for war and filled with amger.
Hehe

You know you're at the last level before the Acts final boss when Hakita drops a Cerberus, a Swordsmachine, 3 Sentries, a Virtue and a fuckload of fodder in your face while Altars of Apostasy blasts out of your speakers.

I love how we’re not even playing the main character of the story. The main character of ultrakill is by all definitions Gabriel. He’s going through all the stages of a protagonist story. He’s changing. Meanwhile we’re a cold heartless machine, one of hundreds, ripping through hell simply for it’s own sick twisted entertainment. Gabriel just happened to be in our way. And when this hit, i felt absolutely abysmal for doing everything. We’re not a hero, not even a good protagonist, we’re a blank slate the player can’t even project themselves onto. And thats freaking awsome. One of the best tragedies of the modern era
11/10 would ultrakill again, and +1 because the game has buttplug support.

I love it when action-heavy shooters get super emotional with their soundtracks

That's why I liked the Wolfenstein reboot so much

This part of this track really hits different; it immediately evokes one of Ultrakill's biggest themes - tragedy. The tragedies of Minos, of Sisyphus (?), of the Ferryman and of all the denizens of Hell, plus the impending tragedy of Gabriel once God's light leaves his body, and perhaps most of all...V1's own impending tragedy.

For indeed, this track reminds you that soon you'll fight all the way through to the bottom of Hell, through the last remaining sources of blood. Once that's done...it's over. All you've managed to do is stave off your impending shutdown from lack of fuel, and eventually once you've reached Lucifer's fetid corpse, once you've danced with Gabriel one final time, you'll power down for good. Just a hunk of silicon and steel in the cooling remains of Hell, while Heaven disintegrates and eventually all of Creation comes undone for good because of your quest.

Your story ends as a lifeless machine in a universe whose death knell came because you wanted to stave off your own end, and now you'll be a monument to man's mistakes...forever.
