Essential Classroom Management Strategies for Inner City and New Teachers. In this week's video I wanted to talk about a few important features of my classroom management strategy. Knowing how to establish a predictable and stable classroom is so critical to the success of new teachers, and it is especially important when teaching in title i schools, middle schools, and inner city school. There are only a few key concepts that I focus on in this video, and using them everyday has helped me minimize disruptions, create "flow," and grow my relationships with my students. What strategies do you find useful in your own classroom? Let me know, and I'll see you in the comments! Please Like, Comment, & Subscribe :)

This is a great video ! I have a new girls basketball team in the inner city NYC with half the players not committed that don’t like each other.

Just had my first day teaching at a historic and underfunded school in my city. Needed this so bad. Felt like I failed today - I didn't - everything is just so new. Thank you for your tips!!

Aspiring High School teacher here! Thank you so much for your valuable insight! I struggle a lot with confrontation and conflict in general, but your advice gives me confidence

Very helpful video for college instructors who teach dual credit. College professors were not trained to teach in the secondary environment, but the increase in dual credit puts us in the junior and senior level high school classes. Then there is the issue with managing the classroom. By the time students get to the college classroom, it is not as labor-intensive to manage the classroom. I think this video is important. Thank you.

Ma'am! You are awesome. I so appreciate your message here. Many thanks to you. This is my core philosophy, but it's so easy to lose that in the heat of the moment. I may have a challenging year ahead of me (from what I hear), and I needed to hear you say this to me.

We don’t have issues with phones at my school because the families are low income. They can’t afford to buy them for their kids. We have issues with trauma and lack of engagement. I have some really kind students, but some are hard to deal with. They’re just angry and negative. I don’t want to feed into it but they can wear you down sometimes.

Great video, you seem like an awesome educator! Do you ask for the phones on day one, or do you tell them the policy and start on day 2. I feel like on day 1 say all the expectations, and explain them, then the next class we start. ??

I taught in the inner city for 20 years and rarely had phone issues. I did not collect their phones, but I insisted in no uncertain terms that they were not to take their phones out. It’s all about how you communicate this to them.

Because it's a whole another game. Not for the faint of heart

Don't take kids phones. Never. That needs to be a district wide policy. Above teachers pay grade.

Phones should be confiscated at office. Never to the class.

I got sick of the padded numbers in inner city school systems. I dont blame the students, or administration. Not everyone should be teaching.

Why would make mention to the inner city? What are you implying?

I’m not going to pay to fund your quixotic failure. Millions of Americans are like me.

So nobody is going to talk about “inner city”??? lol This is very problematic and tone deaf. So classroom management strategies differ with “inner city” students?? This is the problem with teachers who don’t come from the context of the students they teach.
