At some point every teacher has the kid that is disengaged, shy, bored, too cool for school...
If our goal as teachers is to help EVERY kid succeed, how do we help students that, at least by appearances, want to be anywhere else but in school?

Respect your introverts. I used to doodle and look everywhere but at the teacher but introversion and autism makes eye contact and personal interactions very gard.

I'm teaching in a school in Indonesia as a native english teacher and I only meet the class once a week and I handle grades 7 to Grade 12! I have a gr12 students who has been a habitual class skipper (asking permission to use the toilet and never comes back!). Having this in mind, I have been observing this particular student and has only skipped my class once so far (I didnt mind it because it is the first time.) Im having a hard time building relationships because of our schedule. So what I do is make the best with the time we have and not spend it complaining or being negative and not highlight the naughty ones unless it is really extreme rudeness that needs addressing. So I just note minor misbehaviors of certain kids and not make a big deal. So far there's no recurring misbehaviors so I hope I'm doing something right.

Hello, I love your videos - such great reminders and tips. Thank you! Could you address some issues that casual / supply teachers face please? You have about 2 minutes at the start of class to make the right impression whilst the students suss you out and relationship building is harder! Thank you ☺️
