One of the things I've really struggled with is parsing the difference between "this isn't how I would have done it" and "this is bad". I'm not always sure where that line is. I genuinely enjoyed Elrond's portrayal, but part of me is always wondering if I'm enjoying the story or I'm enjoying the visual effects/music/being back in Middle Earth—which don't get to the core of whether it's good.

I think my biggest issue is how un Elven the Elves feel. As a long-standing Tolkien nerd, none of them seem to walk at once in both the Seen and Unseen world. They come across as... rich people with fancy clothes.

What you mentioned about the Studio's "approach" to content creators reviewing their shows is extremely alarming. I was already highly suspicious of the majority of the early reviews by critics and especially influencers. All of them felt... disingenuous. Of course, good reviews don't generally make me suspicious. What really surprised me in this case is the complete lack of even a single point of negative critique by the vast majority of the reviews. Not a single one? Really? I just hope that I'm wrong.

I work in a newspaper company. And one of the things I hate doing the most is working with paid advertorials. Client has complete and total control over what I write. And when I get readers say I got paid for it, I just, um, technically my employers are the ones who got paid…

Personally I enjoy watching reviews for projects like this and House of the Dragon week to week. It feels more engaging and is nice to see what other think of the show as it’s progressing rather than once it’s finished.

Yes! I would LOVE. Episode by episode reviews of HOTD and ROP!!! Love your reviews esp with rings of power as a non book reader it helps contextualize some of the things happening which help watching the show be more enjoyable

Correction, you cannot tell the story of the Second Age as a whole, with all included everywhere all the time, and have a half decent consistent product. The solution for this kind of problem though, is simple: don't do it. Don't try to do the impossible of exhausting the material, pick one story (like Isildur's story, for example) and tell it. There is no shortage of such self contained archs to be chosen from. To try to do everything at the same time is a rookie mistake that is bound to make the writing weak.

I 've been following the channel for a while now and I just want to say that above all I really appreciate Daniel's integrity and his honest attempt at always trying to be as objective as possible while also having a positive attitude towards everything fantasy related.

You sir are a Youtube gem and honestly Chris Stuckman and yourself are the only two Youtubers that I am willing to watch (from the review business) in the future

Episode reviews followed by an overall review of the season would be pretty dope. Your takes are very reasonable, and I agreed with you on almost everything though I do think the slow burn (if done right) will be a good call for the show. I think the amount of hate and outrage surrounding the show have been ridiculous to say the least, and as a fanatical fan of the legendarium, I'm overall enjoying the show with definitely some meh bits (the jumps from character to character) and I am excited to see how it plays out. Wouldn't say I'm fully invested yet, but I am interested to see how it plays out.

If you throw a whole load of money at a project, you get something that looks fantastic, which should be standard in this day and age. Unfortunately the writing doesn’t seem to be up to standard and there were so money moments where, specifically, Galadriel just knows, just does, is just right without to the point it’s just silly. I’ve tapped out after episode one.

Your channel and HelloFutureMe are two of the most reasonable voices in the YouTube world talking about fantasy and sci-fi, and with so many eyes on this show it would be great to see someone who has as much love for the genre as you talking about it regularly

I’d love to see a review maybe every two episodes or so. I think the slow burn thing could work well for them if they can get people invested by the midpoint of the season and super invested by the end going into season two.

This show is so painful to follow in terms of the internet and it has my brain mumbo jumbod thanks daniel for covering it. I will probs wait till it finishes as I heard people not love the writing and while visuals can be great to start the narrative carries a show throughout. Also I am reading Malazan and watching HOTD so I am a bit overwhelmed
