Behind the scenes look at the rings in Season 2 of The Rings of Power coming to Prime Video August 29.

About The Rings of Power Season 2: Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on Season 1’s epic scope and ambition, Season 2 of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all… each other.

That scene of him talking to Annatar about the rings is what I want! A Celebrimbor who is obsessed with his creations, to finally be able to compete with his grandfather. Charles Edwards is gonna kill it in this role.

This is the type of marketing season 1 should have had. Way less people would criticize the show if there were more teasers like this, talking about Tolkien and the story.

I understand now how 7 rings make their way into the dwarven kingdoms. Sauron uses Celebrimbor not only for forging the rings, but also for sneaking himself into the dwarven halls. They know who Celebrimbor is, but they dont know who Annatar is. And since Dwarves arent very keen about the elves without a few expceptions, this would have proofed a very difficult task.
Nicely done!

"Sauron put on his fair hue again and did obeisance to Eönwë, the herald of Manwë, and abjured all his evil deeds. and some hold that this was not at first falsely done, but that Sauron in truth repented, if only out of fear."

This idea that Sauron genuinely regretted his evil deeds is something Tolkien referred to more than once. Unfortunately, pride was his downfall. He was unwilling to go back to Valinor and face trial and possible punishment, and instead fled and hid himself.

Sauron conceived the idea that the Valar had abandoned Middle-earth to its fate, by inviting the elves to return to Aman and the Edain to escape to Númenor, and leaving the rest of the Great Lands in the smoking ruin left by the destruction of Beleriand. In that case it was up to him to set things right, to repair the damage, and to take on the task of organising the hapless people of Middle-earth into a more efficient system. Again, this is pride at work; Sauron believed that he alone had the power and duty to set the world in order. But at least at first, he believed that he was doing this for everybody’s benefit. He saw himself as a good guy.

As such, there seems to me to be the definite possibility that Sauron genuinely, at first, felt that Celebrimbor was a kindred spirit who would work with him to set things right. Sauron was a craftsman at heart, a Maia of Aulë; and Celebrimbor was the grandson of Fëanor. (I wonder if Sauron was proud that he was able to cooperate with Fëanor’s descendant while his erstwhile master Morgoth so dismally failed to win the friendship of Fëanor himself?) Celebrimbor was willing to ally with Sauron when those other, more conservative Valar-loving elves Gil-galad and Elrond turned up their noses at him.

It’s still possible, of course, that Sauron’s relapse into evil had already taken place before he adopted the form and name of Annatar. But it’s just as possible that he began his work on forging the Rings of Power with good intent, and regarded Celebrimbor as a genuine collaborator. In this case, his relapse into evil came during the making of the Rings. Maybe he realised that the elves did not share his vision of how Middle-earth should be ruled. Or maybe he realised he could create a Master Ring to rule the others, and the opportunity just seemed too great for him to pass over even if it meant betraying his former friends.

The One Ring corrupts everyone who takes it; and it seems dramatically appropriate that its first victim should have been Sauron himself, corrupted by the idea of making it.

Probably one of my favorite explanations of Tolkien's inner workings from someone deep diving. I really am excited to see how this plays out to be honest. The ending with him being corrupted by his own ring completely would be a spectacle.

I find it funny when trolls call this show cheap and plastic, atleast look wise only to find out that John Howe is one of the chief artists involved with this show, who is also one of the most well known Tolkien artists, AND was also significantly involved in the PJ trilogy.

The writing for s1 had some genuine problems, but people need to understand that the show is not trying to completely live up to the trilogy, look wise. Having said that, there are some solid inspirations(for instance, the design of the balrog, some armor and weapons). But just because they are too iconic not to be utilized for the same IP, I believe.

I translate stuff into Elvish for a living. Here's a fun spoiler! The letter to Durin IV is in English! ELVISH LETTER TRANSLITERATION:

"Durin 4
I humbly request your
attendance in Eregion,
that I might present a
new offer for the Dwarves
of Khazad-dûm.
Despite your recent
misfortunes, I believe
your ears are best suited
to listen to this
proposition. My people are
in your debt, and I --"
