👶🏻Swaddling is a great way to help newborns sleep! Plus is one of the 5 S’s of sleep (Dr Harvey Karp, _Happiest Baby_)

🛑But once they start to roll the swaddle needs to go ASAP!- usually around 4-5 months but can be as early as 2 months with early rollers!

➡️This is because is increases risk of sudden death- If a newly rolling infant rolls over to their face while in the swaddle they will have a very difficult time rolling back and can face suffocation. The swaddle will make it very difficult for them to get out of an unsafe sleep position

✳️Meta Analysis study showed infants PLACE ON THEIR SIDE OR PRONE and SWADDLED had DOUBLED risk of sudden infant death

✅It’s reasonable to start to transition out of the swaddle once your baby shows signs of trying to roll (but isn’t fully rolling), you can do this by taking 1 arm out or by cold turkey taking both arms out and moving to a sleep sack.

🚫Remember NO BLANKETS IN THE CRIB- this can cause suffocations, strangulation or impeded babies’ ability to get out of dangerous sleep positions as well.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Either way transitions are hard and there will be sleep disturbances for all. But rest assured they pass quickly
