Your review of Arsenic & Adobo is giving me a very much needed laugh. Goodness gracious... at first I thought the author might have included all of those characters-being-stupid b/c that's how it goes down in a lot of comedy-of-errors films (and some police procedurals), but the more you talked about it, the more I wondered if "nope, they're just idiots."

I think you’d really like The Surprising Power of a Good Dumpling. It’s an Australian YA that I adored and gave 5 stars & it centres a family restaurant, a main character who’s trying to do well at school & the family values not aligning with her identity/goals. It deals with a romance subplot and also mental health in general REALLY well. Stellar book. 👌🏻👌🏻

I think I’d be annoyed by Dial A for Aunties but if I need something chaotic then maybe I’ll try it hahaha

I loved Arsenic and Adobo, I also love food though... I find a lot of contemporary mysteries try to pull off the Miss Marple/Murder She Wrote female sleuth but younger and don't quite get there. Instead they end up annoying. What did you think about the recipes that are included? I thought it was a cute touch

The last chaotic family drama book I've read is Love Marriage and I found it to be very entertaining. No restaurants though. It dealt more with doctors.

Some of these books are cozy mysteries and are not necessarily to be taken too seriously. Books in that genre also tend to have subplots because they tend to be a part of a series and continue the story in the subsequent books. For example, there are already two more out there for Arsenic and Adobo. One must try to be aware of this when starting to read them.

Dial A for Aunties was so unhinged but was surprisingly entertaining. Debating whether to read the rest based off your review 🤔

Of the three books you discussed, I've only read A Pho Love Story. It was decent; I wasn't in love.

If you truly liked how unhinged dial a for aunties i highly recommended finlay donovan is killing it. suspense romance writer accidentally is mistaken for a hit-woman in a panera while pitching a new book to her editor and someone hires her to kill her husband.

super hotmess but SO entertaining and better than all of these. (there is a small romance plot BUT IT IS NOT THE BIGGEST PART OF THE BOOK so easy to digest)
