I use a piece of transparent glass, simply apply a brush stroke with the desire tone and then place the glass near the surface you are working on, and just look through for similarity, and keep mixing colour until you don’t see differences

I have been doing this for a little while now probably a month or so. and I mainly use a little diamond shape palette knife because I can't seem to make paint break with a bob ross palette knife and it works well because it's completely flat so you can cover the entire back of the knife
