Picking a deadbolt is a pretty easy skill to learn. It just takes some patience and practice. Some deadbolts are harder than others. That's a lovely, easy lock, with a sloppy core. Not bad for practicing with.mThen you can progress to more paracentric locks with narrower keyways, much better manufacturing tolerances, security pins and so on. (Sparrows sell some really useful practice tools and high quality picks and levers, if you're interested.) 

One secret is to have a selection of really good levers in different sizes and thicknesses, for different lock types. You can make your own very easily. I use discarded windscreen wiper blades for some of them. 

The rake which you put aside in the video will open a good many different locks very quickly, sometimes more quickly than using a key. And many locks need picks with different tips and thicknesses. Those things come later, if you're practicing.


Another secret is to practice daily. There is no substitute for regular effort. You can become 'rusty' very quickly; within a few days.

At a point where the lenses of my glasses are locked behind a deadbolt and my keys are a few states away. I have a book about lock picking (also behind same deadbolt 😅) honestly this has been the most helpful anything for my learning ability & now confident i can now get past this issue without my drill thank you so, soo much. Thank's my mother lost her key to a keepsake lockbox she's had for forever, so I order a kit from Amazon, practiced for 3 days and what do you know I got in from watching your video 1 time after 3 years of it being locked.
