It was really disheartening when the fact that our education system has a declining literacy rate was not mentioned once during the political Gambit.

I think narcissism is the most key component in this (anecdotally). Anyone I have dated who has had a tough time humbling themselves often has had a very, very high view of their actions and a tendency to think better of themselves. I learned very young that being wrong is alright so long as you don't keep making the same mistakes.

As someone who has been very wrong before. It is a devastating experience & something that makes you question everything about yourself, especially if you're insecure. I was surprised @ how willing I was to pin the blame on the people who pointed out my mistakes or anyone or anything else instead of myself. Because admitting that I was wrong felt like invalidating my entire existence somehow. I got out of that funk through a good support system, which I am very lucky to have.

P. S.: Psychology papers that try to determine huge trends or patterns among populations always give me the ick. Mostly because matters of the mind are so specific to each individual, in spite of any commonalities or patterns.

its cheesy to say, but knowing when you're wrong and facing it is the only way I know of to fix yourself.

People who wont admit to being wrong or inadequate never change and never improve, they just suck forever and are barely ever worth trying to help.

The psychologist bit is quite true. I would have become a psychologist, therapist or similar but I don't like dealing with people at all.

I've had a lot of this with family recently because of the holidays. I have relatives I refuse to be around now because they refuse to admit their own wrongdoings in anything. Brittle ego definitely sounds like the issue.
Their issues have never been terribly severe so much as it is a denial to ever admit mistakes, and when its an adult twice my age who still can't do the basic self reflection of seeing the consequences of their actions I do not owe it to them to fix issues they've created.
One of the most liberating parts of being an adult is choosing who is worth your time.

i accepted that im always going to be wrong to a certain degree and so i turned into the person with the most knowledge in the room in most cases

People who are humble are a joy to be around. Thus, I want to at least try to be as well. Sometimes it's hard, because you feel like everyone else is wrong and won't admit it! But they might feel this about you, too.

I definitely don't mind being wrong but I don't like being used or taken advantage of...wrong is just a learning opportunity.

Feeling remorse, regret and guilt are part of the human experience. To deny these elements of the human psyche is to deny our humanity. To live a delusion. In all actuality, I don’t think I ever meet anyone capable of apologizing when they’re wrong. That attests to the degree of ego and narcissism in America.

I remember when I was younger, I was the one these types of people Loved. Kind, empathetic, willing to try to help others…

Yeah, once it started back firing, my mom had to swoop in and teach me how to not be a people pleaser.

Our thought patterns are deterministic and largely geared toward self preservation.

Emotive expression is a tool for resource gathering or defense, just like egoic expression.

Doing the best I can with what I have. And maybe giving a hand up to those who need it.

I was like that when I was younger. I tought that admitting beeing wrong would ruin the imagine others had of me, and that was the entire problem for me.

I've since put care in recognizing this pattern in others and the refusal of admitting wrongdoing always came from a fragile ego so far.

To me that remains the only reason there is
