Have you heard about Asteroid Apophis? It's like the rockstar of space—cool name, big impact! This bad boy has been causing a stir among astronomers. It's got a reputation for being a bit of a troublemaker, swinging by Earth every now and then, giving us all a little scare. But don't worry, it's not all doom and gloom—NASA's been keeping a close eye on it. They're on top of the game, crunching numbers, plotting trajectories, and making sure Apophis knows who's boss. So, while it's definitely something to keep an eye on, let's leave the asteroid-wrangling to the experts, shall we?

Looking at the state of the world right now it wouldn't be the worst thing to happen.

It just 374 meter in length, and about 340 wide. It's not even one km, whereas Chixulub was 10 kms. Civilization will not end; however big troubles for our generations.

"Imagine a firecracker in the palm of your hand. You set it off, what happens? You burn your hand, right? You close your fist around the same firecracker, and set it off. Your wife's gonna be opening your ketchup bottles the rest of your life." - Ronald Quincy (Armageddon, 1998)

When you look at the state of the earth right now There's never been a better time for an asteroid to hit

No.
It was named 99942 Apophis because:
The astronomers who discovered it were geeks (not a bad thing).
999: because it's 666 upside down. You know. Mark of the Beast.
42: because it's the ultimate answer, to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
Apophis: because he was the villain on their favorite show- Stargate: SG1.

I'd rather deal with an asteroid than a hemorrhoid.

I’ll be in my car with a full tank of fuel and everything I need to survive on top of a mountain that day! Just in case!

It's too bad we don't have superman to divert it. The old tv show had an episode depicting this event.
