just to put that into perspective, it's $160/lb for the jarred spices versus 6.59/lb when purchased from the bulk spice section...

I’ve never in my life seen a bulk spices section in a supermarket.

If not in bulk section, a lot if stores have an "International" aisle where the spices come in bags, rather than jars and the cost is way less!

Go to an Indian grocery store and you can get spices way cheaper than Walmart, food lion etc. Learned that two weeks ago in Morrisville, NC.

I'm gonna be checking out the price difference on more spices soon because coriander was absolutely ridiculous !!

You're my favorite content creator, but bro, I live in North Dakota. I'm lucky if they're not out of every spice but ranch seasoning.

You must live in a VERY well-off community. I’ve never seen a help-yourself spice section in any grocery store, EVER. And I’ve been to a LOT of grocery stores!

Plus if it's a new spice for you, and you're only planning on using it for the one dish you plan on experimenting with (so far), you can withdraw however much you want/need! Therefore no spending much more on a jar or bottle of the stuff and only using a teaspoon of it, possibly not liking it, and then having a 99.99% full jar of some spice sitting in your rack or cupboard that will just collect dust indefinitely (I bet most home cooks watching have a couple two three of them sitting in the back somewhere).

I've never seen bulk spices in a normal market but I have an Indian market near me and you can buy all the spices for pennies. Seriously giant bags of spices for like $2. I usually go with some friends and then we divide up the bags after the haul! It's awesome. My wife likes this fancy jam that comes in cool square jars and I save the jars and use them for the spices.

This is good stuff due to times we are heading into, you should do a budget cooking show

As a longtime fan and an 18 year long supermarket worker (ya, pathetic, I know) don't trust the bulk stuff too much...often it's teenagers doing the refilling of the containers...they don't always wash them, they don't always rotate or get rid of the old stuff. Too many times I've encountered moldy bulk spices or otherwise. Be mindful of this and if possible, ask if they have any in the back. It will be fresher.

No store in Philadelphia has a section like this.😢

To those of us who live in Texas, H‑E‑B usually has bulk coffee, nuts, and spices. They also used to have teas, but they stopped stocking them some time ago.

Emphasis on “if your supermarket has one”

Hispanic, Asian, Indian and Mediterranean markets also tend to have really great prices on spices.

Plus grinding those whole spices at the time of cooking is better than those pre ground spices.
