We need to accept “I can’t afford that” as an acceptable, not shameful, statement. We need to applaud people who say it.

I have to tell myself when thrift shopping for clothes "is this really cute? Or just the cutest thing here? Would you pick it in the original retail store or pay full price?" This helps so much.

A while back I started clearing out all of the closets, the drawers, the craft stash, garage shelves etc. Now when I am out and about I remember all of the stuff I have accumulated. I donate almost everything to a local thrift shop and she is so incredibly appreciative. Now when I am at the store seeing the non essentials all over the place I remember all of this stuff I have cleared out, living clutter free is just SO much better. Loved this topic!

“There are no mistakes. You don’t win or lose, you win or you learn.” What a great attitude! We get so bogged down by shame, but shame isn’t productive. Reminds me of Marie Kondo’s philosophy that “sometimes the value in the item is that it taught you that you don’t need that item.”

I have a 1 week rule. If I want something, wait a week and see if I still think I need it. Also making a list before shopping for anything and sticking to it.

I used to buy clothes or accessories that didn't really fit me or that I didn't really use; one day (after years of decluttering), looking at a catalog, I realized I liked the picture of the woman that went with the thing, and I pictured myself being/living like that. Well, I am me, and I don't need a certain thing to be or live or feel a certain way, that all comes from within 🙏 I am so glad decluttering brought me to this realization

Best video before the Thanksgiving sales. Most influencers are trying to impose shopping on us and look at you! Thats the reason I need a weekly dose from you.

My husband is a manager for a major retail store and he said the sales aren't really sales. Most of the time, you're saving less than a dollar. The company marks up the sticker price, then posts a 20% off tag on it. Most of the time, the sales are last year's product they need to get rid of.

A habit that helped me recently was writing down all of my purchases including ordering food out for each month. There is just something about seeing how much you spent on paper that helps you to stop impulse shopping. Thanks for this great video.

My trigger to change my spending habits was doing a massive clear out, seeing how much stuff I forgot I even owned made me realise how inconsiderately I used to shop 😅 I now value my clutter free draws too much not to evaluate every potential purchase

I live in Puerto Rico and a lot of places don’t ship here, but you don’t find out until you try to check out. I have found that putting items in the cart, but NOT buying often satisfies the desire to impulse shop. Rarely do I ever end up pursuing the purchase, and this has helped me a ton!!! If you really still want it 24-48 hours later you can always go back and add it to cart again

Another top tip is to not store or remember your card details for online checkout. The act of physically getting up to go and get your card and the inconvenience of having to put the number in will serve as a buffer for the impulse. Even better if you store a note with your card that says something like “do you really want this, what purpose does it serve, I am committed to saving $x this year/being debt free, does this help me meet that goal?”

Would love to see a video like this but in relation to Christmas presents shopping. I find that I'm quite reasonable with my money but when it comes to gifts I often get carried away and I'm probably not the only one here. Great video as always Kallie.

I just saw a comment on Instagram that said instead of thinking of something as “I can’t afford this”, think of it as “this doesn’t align with my goals”. It was actually advice on how to talk to children lol but I think it could be helpful to everyone because it doesn’t create a mindset of scarcity.

I was extremely poor and could barely get what I needed. When I finally had money I went overboard. Now I make lists and don't deviate unless I find something for a birthday or Christmas for someone. I allow myself that because I have found I truly love to see someone happy about getting something that they had been looking for.

Many of the viewers are possibly in the "acquisition" stage of life, meaning the getting all of the furniture, hobbies, and stuff that we want. I am in the "Swedish Death Cleaning " phase of life. I don't want to burden my children with having to get rid of all my acquisitions. I do wish I had stopped acquiring much earlier so there would be less to get rid of and more money to have now. Keep up the good work.

There was one item that actually made me cook more (or want to cook at all, actually) - and that's the Ninja dual air fryer. I live alone and cooking for me has always been the last thing I ever wanted to do, I have zero interest in it naturally. Well, what changed with the air fryer is that cooking became easier and yet things started coming out tastier - I never knew that you can just rub spices on something and in 10-15 minutes you could have a restaurant-quality meal. It was truly a life-changing purchase for me.

i noticed i impulse shopped in the evenings more than anything- so i have a "no buying things online after 6 pm" rule- and that has helped immensely.

I love how you introduced this topic in a way that normalizes the fact that we all struggle with this, and that it really is nothing to be ashamed of. I constantly look for ways to stop overspending as well. This is a great video! Thank you for posting it,
