Great video very clear and helpful. Yesterday we pulled our Kenmore out from its nook and there was a lot of dust built up in the vents. We vacuumed them thoroughly and pushed the refrigerator back in its nook. Once the refrigerator started running here was no more sound. But then it started up again but not as loud. I’m going to try doing what you did in this video to see if it’s the fan hitting ice, thank you again for this clear, concise repair video. Stay tuned!

That is the exact part that I need but I’m having trouble finding it anywhere, I’ve been told that the part is no longer available, any suggestions?

Thanks for saving thanksgiving leftovers! I defrosted overnight, the drain pan in the back had water but it looked like it was all draining from one side, so I carefully stuck a screwdriver in the other drain hole and moved it around until water started coming out. I didn't have to get into the back of the freezer. 10 minute fix after finding this video. So far so good!

I removed the big plastic parts covering the fan in the back but the fan is staying attached to the plastic piece. I’m worried about damaging the wires connected to the fan

I found the motor that serves the refrigerator was frozen. The fan blade would not spin. Also, the freezer fan was making a loud noise. I removed the refrigerator fan and thawed it out with a hair dryer. The fan spins free now. The freezer fan noise was caused by ice build up behind it. I thawed it out also and everything seems fine.

Hey. I took the freezer appart and was able to defrost everything using a steamer.

There was a large buildup of ice in the middle fan (freezer fan) and that large cover has ice throughout it.

I decided to plug it in and just see if the left fan (refrigerator fan) and the coils did anything while the other fan was unplugged. The left fan started right up and the coils got cool pretty quickly.

After i gave the center fan and cover a good cleaning i reattach the cover. Boy is that a pain to put back in.

I tested the 2 drain lines in the freezer and both worked the first time. There is a 3rd drain line - I'm not sure where that is at.

I'm trying to find that 3rd drain line and figure out why I'm getting water in my freezer. I'm not sure if the I've maker has low pressure or what. But my ice in the icemaker would melt. It does seem there is a little trail of (dried up) water from the icemaker down the back of the fridge.

Do you have any advice for the water or that 3rd drain line? Thanks

Appreciate you still responding to comments to help people out! I'm in the process of trying to fix this. I didn't have a steamer so I let it defrost for about 8 hours before attempting to tear it down. Once I got in there I noticed that there was water droplets from frost on the ceiling of the freezer. Behind the panel the coils and fan were wet but no build up of water below the coils. I gave the fan a spin and it sounded/felt fine. Double checked the drain tubes with a glass of water and they are functioning properly.

Since there doesn't appear to be any replacement fans available to buy, I came here to check the comments and saw some people were mentioning that both fans were running. So I decided to plug my unit in to see if the fan was working. It started up fine/sounded fine but after 5-10 seconds it turned off. Not sure if this is an automatic feature or not since the freezer door was off still? Or is this not working properly?

I didn't have the panel attached so I haven't checked the second (right) fan.

Should I button it back up and see if that worked? I'm just not sure how to tell if the fan is spinning properly with the back panel covering it. And then if that doesn't work, and there's no fan replacements to buy, is there any course of action I can take?

I appreciate your thorough explanation and all the steps. I found this video very helpful. I had the refrigerator fan motor replaced today. It had ice buildup. But that did not solve the problem. What could be the issue now?

My dad and I did all of these steps and it’s cooling again! We replaced both fans because there was so much ice build-up that it shocked both of the motors. Now 24 hrs later we noticed that the right fan is always on, it never shuts off. Before they would both shut off when you opened their corresponding door. However when I open the freezer door it stays on. My dad believes it should be the sensor thats next to the fan to the right, that’s not receiving the signal for the fan to shut off when the door is opened. Could we get some insight please, we feel we almost have it fixed 😅 we can almost claim victory!

Thanks for this video. It's very helpful. I have 2 questions:

1. I assume the freezer was working but the fridge was not getting cold. Is that correct?

2. Might I just go straight to the drain line and blow into it with my steamer to clear the blockage? If that doesn't resolve the issue, then replace the fan?

Thanks again.

Hello thank you so much for sharing it helped me a lot!

I removed the bottom and seen the fan would move while plugged in so I took it out and sure enough it doesn’t spin when I turn it with my fingers.

Where can I find a fan replacement at?

I have a Kenmore Elite 11173045610 bottom freezer. I need to replace the damper but I cannot find any manuals on how to move the parts on the back wall of the refrigerator. I purchased a Repair Manual but it makes the assumption that the person as done this before. I do not know how to begin removing the panel. I think things just pop off because I do not see any screws, but with my luck I will break things. Do have a video on how to replace the damper? Thanks!
