Every floor has exactly 2 rooms with chests in them. One of them will have a gun while the other will have either a passive upgrade, or an active item. While brown chests don't have good guns, their items provide decent passive upgrades. So, if your first chest gives you a gun, it might be worth opening up that brown chest, rather than destroying it.

EDIT: Also, if you beat the boss before gaining a new gun, the boss is guaranteed to drop one, rather than an upgrade or item. This can be used to stock up some firepower early in the game. The tradeoff is that you have to beat the boss with your base weapons.

While we're on bosses, Master Rounds are probably the most important item to any run, because they provide an extra heart container, and can give you some breathing room later in the game. At the very least, you should be trying to consistently beat the floor one boss without taking damage. You'll be fighting them a lot, so you'll have plenty of time to get to know their patterns.

Lastly, while dodge rolling is effective, it leaves you vulnerable, since you can't change direction. Most of the bullets being shot at you are slow, so it's more effective to strafe and weave through them, and dodge rolling when that's not possible.

Here's a tip:
There's a secret stat called "Magnificence" wherein it denotes the chances of you getting an A-tier or S-tier chest. Once you open an A-tier or S-tier chest, your Magnificence will drop. You can reset your Magnificence stat by saving on the floor you opened an A-/S-tier chest. The next time you continue your game, you chances of encountering top tier chests on that current floor you're on will be reset to a higher rate. It's helped me a lot in many runs & I hope it does the same for you too. Good luck, Gungeoneers.

some tips from someone who has 100%ed the game
-beating a characters past a second time will unlock their alternate starting weapon
- saving 5 caped bullet kin will unlock the bullet
-taking the broken tv from the second floor elevator shaft all the to the forge will unlock the robot
- after completing the main four pasts a weird puddle can show up, stepping in the puddle will leave your character pardoxed
-beating the game paradoxed will unlock the paradox
- reaching the paradox's past will restart your run as the gunslinger
-beating the lich as gunslinger will unlock the gunslinger
-the paradox stars with a random weapon and passive, and the gunslinger starts with the best passive in the game " Lich Eye Bullets"
-the robot gains a passive 5% damage increase for every piece of junk you have in your inventory
-locked brown chests have a very small chance to being a rainbow chest in disguise
-any type of chest can be "glitched" opening the chest will take you to a glitched boss fight where you can get really good items and skip all the way to fourth floor
-bosses have a dps cap that prevents the player from killing bosses too fast, however some guns can bypass the dps cap some examples being the makeshift canon and the yari launcher
-flying allows you to cheese the winchester minigame
-there is setting in the option menu labelled "beast mode" it does absolutely nothing, beating the game with it active unlocks a weapon
-the higher your curse the more likely "jammed enemies" will appear, they have significantly more hp than normal enemies, and their attacks deal an entire heart instead of half
-some weapons can turn a jammed enemy into a normal enemy, however i dont think they de-jam bosses
-there is a glitch with bullets sword that is extremely useful, when you reload with the sword a guard animation will play out, if at max hp you guard reload and flick your cursor you can deal damage to an entire room, its easy to do on PC, on console its a bit harder but possible
-ser junkan gets more powerful the more junk you have, however his final form is actually weaker than his second to last form
-if you destroy a high rarity chest there is chance for something called gold junk to appear, pickup it will give you 500 money
-gold junk also transform junkan into mecha junkan
-if you attempt daisukes challenge, never pick up back-up gun, ive lost more times than i care to admit because of this.
-blessing of the gun is pretty easy if you are playing as gunslinger, and even easier if you are playing rainbow mode

There is also a hidden stat called coolness which makes cool down on active items shorter, sunglasses increase it by two passively (obviously) and using cigarettes increase it by one each time you use them

A tip I always recommend is to roll into bullets, not away from them. Also never play pilot or convict when starting out. Convict has a bad item with a bad starting and additional gun, and pilot has “good” items that are incredibly situational with (in my opinion) the worst gun in the game. Marine and Hunter are both great though (my fav is hunter, her past is easiest, her guns are good, and dog is funny. She also has the best alt skin for hr model and gun) and when you unlock robot (carry the busted tv in the elevator shaft room on floor 2 to the forge lady) it gets a lot easier (robot is hard, he doesn’t have health, but his gun is rly good and he gets stronger with junk, which is very very good). Above all try to get rainbow runs quickly. The npc is in one of the floor 2 cages and chills in one of the breach rooms. Rainbow runs make the game much easier, and getting far is necessary for unlocking items, which make getting further easier. Gungeon is hard, very hard, it took me probably 30 hours to beat a past. Don’t get too demoralized from dying to wallmonger for the 4th time. The more you fail, the more you learn, and the better you’ll be.

A few things. Holstered weapons reload themselves after being holstered for twice their reload time. Saved hearts will also appear in the starting room if the floor has a shaft there. The Tinker actually explicitly tells you that he's in the elevator shaft if I remember correctly. The water barrel is (I'm pretty sure) guaranteed to spawn in the fireplace room. Shooting the demon face with water will actually give an A OR S tier item or gun

FYI: Players don't have to shoot every chest to check for mimics. Take the time to notice their movements. Mimics outside of boss rooms will "breathe" (lid slightly opens and closes, locked or not) and mimics in boss rooms will "blink" (two "eyes" will appear on the reward column, slightly below the item). Additionally, locked mimics do not require a key to open/activate. Defeat them to get their loot without using a key.

EDIT 1: The red "save" button appears at the top of the entrance to "The Oubliette" once players have previously entered it.

EDIT 2: The Oubliette is a toxic dungeon.

Thanks, man for the tips. usually, it's hard to find videos for beginners that are both quick and informative. Thankfully this got recommended so I can become a better gamer.

(Very experienced player) there is no time limit, take your time and focus on your character rather than the enemies, if you press the fire button(on console or pc) it will automatically fire at enemies without missing

I would honestly say that my biggest tip would be to NOT abbuse your dodge roll, it will feel like you just avoided damage, but in most cases a small sidestep will put you into a better position.
The Dodge roll is more of a last resort move (second only to the blank effects). It completely fine if you are not encountering a lot of enemies, but especially in the later floors and oubliette and abbey there are some though rooms were it's important to know when to sidestep and when to dodge roll.
Also if you dodge roll you have to completely realign your aim, while in a sidestep you can keep firing and keep your dps up.

For some example enemies (you can easily sidestep every attack from bulletkin or shotgunshells, veteran versions take a bit time to get used to but are fine to, but enemies like the gun knights kinda force you to dodge roll, so then you have to decide which direction gives you the best position, same for the cubulons on close range, also all bosses work in patterns so it's a lot safer to dodge roll in these fights, since it's always the same pattern of bullets, therefore you have enough time to reposition between each attack)

I just started Gungeon and this video is immensely helpful. Thank you so much. Gungeon is so complex and I’m now better prepared. Big Ups!

This vid randomly appeared on my feed. Never played this game before but looks amazing. Lucky that I saw a comment saying it is currently free on the PS4 store.
