This seems pretty interesting. It would be really nice if all the cpus have 3d v cache so that it easily competes with or beats intel.

I think I will be sticking with 1440p high refresh gaming, with plans to upgrade to 4k as a "nice to have" if it becomes quite easy to both have 4k and high refresh rate, at a reasonable price.

I would wait, because upgrading everything right now is too expensive when AM4 is still priced right.

Zen4 looks to be pretty solid - I wonder whether they'll have enough cache such that 3D stacking isn't worth it for consumer grade chips (given the cost and various issues) and allows them a halo-tier upgrade in future to keep as an ace in the hole. AM5 looks great except for concerns about market segmentation and feature loss at the budget end; I expect marketing around feature-sets to be misleading/convoluted and cause a stir in future...

Back in 2017 I upgraded to a 1600x and x370 (later added a 3700x which served well) so I'm aware of the user experience through a new-platform's early stages. This is why I upgraded to a 5900x on b550 w/ 64gb 3600 c16 last year - I decided to get a decently high-end setup of the end of a stable and refined platform (AM4) to ride out through at least Zen4 and into Zen5, when the AM5 platform will be more stable and refined, and DDR5 modules will be cheaper and have achieved better yields for higher frequency and lower timings (as was the case with DDR3 & DDR4 life-cycles, where the early SKUs were quickly made redundant by newer, faster, cheaper modules as the manufacturing process matured).

So far at current prices the reported performance bump is too small to justify the high platform buy in cost.

Honest feedback is why I come to you for all my PC updates and information videos. I love them!

The price is going to be a lot so I'm going to stick with AM4 for now. Maybe in the foreseeable future!

Great video btw

Coming from 9th gen intel (9400f) and live in a hot region so honestly power efficiency is a big draw for me. If 13th gen intel continues their massive power draws for only decent performance gains I may go AMD for the first time. Even if performance is slightly less, 75-100W less of power draw would make the difference for me.

I've had 4 Ryzen CPUs and not bent any pins on them, I have had 2 motherboards with bent pins. Board pins are much more easily bent, and can be far more difficult or impossible to repair.

I was just thinking of upgrading my 5 3600 to a 7 5800X and then I find out new stuff are coming out, but then that last question about thinking what your build is for got me so I'm thinking an upgrade is still valid and afforable, even without 7000 (for me)!

i won’t be upgrading until ddr5 timings are in the CL20-28 range

I would love AM5, but just bought a AM4 Motherboard to upgrade from my intel 4th Gen system. With Early adopter tax and compatibility issues, i am planning to wait a year or 2

Still rocking a Ryzen 7 3700x aha, it's doing me well! May upgrade to a 5800x first and then wait until the 8000 series to arrive before changing platforms :)

Still worth the move for me. X370 with a 3900x. A 5950x and new board is a dead platform. This video plays down a lot of new features and technology.

100% worth all the cash. If in a year the 8950X is way faster, you already have the platform to drop it into.
