For reference, the ram used during testing was 32GB (2x16GB) of Corsair Vengeance 5600Mhz C40. Ram speed does make a difference here as when running in 4800Mhz each test get 10-15FPS lower. Faster ram = more performance.

With 229 dollars you get a CPU, an iGPU which beats entry level graphics cards, and an NPU which will shine in future applications!

It really is impressive to see how far they have come. At this price point though it's a tough sell to me personally. Not entirely sure what the target market is at this price, maybe HTPC in an ITX / m-ITX case? Can save a few bucks not having to buy a riser cable, watercooling or AIO etc, and then it can still play the occasional game or two.

don't forget that the 8600G and 8700G ONLY have 8 lanes of PCIe Gen4 lanes for a discrete GPU. The 8500G and 8300G only offer 4 lanes of PCIe gen4 for a discrete GPU. Users will have to replace these extremely quick to keep up with technology so ALL of these 8000G CPU's based on what you really get, should cost no more then $150 USD. AMD is really scalping their customers with these CPU's since they are selling you half a desktop CPU with an iGPU with less performance then a Xbox series S for the cost equivalent to that of the series S console if looking at the 8700G. Plus, they only get worse as you go down the stack so, what a rip off.

You can increase the cpu power limits to 110 watts and this will massively help with making games playable

Series of questions:

How does the APU scale up against it's predecessors, such as 5600G and 3400G?
Given that it still has PCIe 4.0 x8, how would the ARC A380 (and bigger cards) perform on a system based on such.
For that matter, how does the iGPU stack up against the RX 6400?
Is there any option for Raytracing?
How is the APU, seen from a pure CPU perspective?

I think that APU might be doing a smidge better than my old R3-1200 + RX480 combo.

One weird use case for these things are CPU bound games like Valorant, you might be able to get to support a high refresh rate, but yeah they really need to lower the price of these

Please Help! I was looking to build a pc with 8600G for mostly productivity as of now but then i am looking forward to save up for a GPU which i will be adding later... Will this be an good idea? Earlier i was considering going with 7600x and then get a gpu later as i don't want to play any games as of now. Here at my place, Price of 7600x and 8600G are same so can you compare these to for me please? Also, i would be pairing it up with a 16GB RAM. will it help me accomplish daily life tasks like programming and browsing (30+ tabs) easily?

Most tests use 6000 MT ram and higher the results are much better. Their msrp is lower than the previous generation. We have gotten used to the low prices of the 5000 series. Overall they are a huge leap forward compared to the 5000 series wich is good. I don't compare them to cpu / discrete gpu combo but to their predecessors.

Just put together my first Win 11 capable box in May with a 5600g (for older games) for downstairs use. For an upstairs machine I'll wait about a year until these drop in price and are offered as CPU/mobo combos before I'll bite.

What comes after the 8000 series Desktop APU? Strix Point?

I'm building a 5700G for the wife - have a very very weird use-case but if the APU isn't sufficient for her gaming stuff, I'll probably go for the 8600G instead.

It doesn't quite keep up with a 1650 so I'm not sure it can be seen as a replacement but of course those are discontinued now... so I guess the comparison should be to the newest Nvidia budget GPU: the 3050 6GB... which is far too expensive.

Nvidia might respond? hard to say, they've seriously overpriced the 3050 6GB though.

10:34 This right here is the line that everyone who's ever jumped on the APU bandwagon, has been saying for years; just wait for the next one! Sadly, that next one will always have its caveats, just as the current one does. AMD could easily have produced a 760m paired with a 4 core, 8 thread chip, like the 8300g, and sold at retail for say $150/£140, at that price-point, it could have been a beast, and a true replacement to the 2400/3400g, while still reserving the 780m for the high-end (more expensive) 6 and 8 core models.

For 250 euros, it could be interesting for a budget build.

Did you make sure to set 8GB of your RAM to be used as VRAM? I think that explains some of the underwhelming performance.

Can't wait for new generation of portable consoles, hoping Valve with their Steam Deck will cooperate with AMD again and create new revolution in this segment of gaming 🙏🏻
