Maybe if we only make $400-max graphics cards, game devs (/studios/publishers) will have to optimize for $400 graphics cards?

They read the room correctly. Economy is bad, people have no money. Delivering excellent midrange value will be the key for the next generation or two.

Midrange now has enthusiast prices from 10y ago :)

i think amd gpu's are great. i have a rx 6750xt currently. and it runs everything.

High end GPUs are terrible now. Too much power and need for upscaling tech. Performance to price/power is not worth it.

I use Linux, and AMD works better with Linux. I have used AMD CPUs and GPUs since I started building my own PCs. Linux and AMD FTW!

mini pc with 1080ti power would be perfect pair for any tv. Sell those for 399$ and rule the world.

I used radeon HD 6950, RX 580, now a 7900XTX. None of my older cards ever died, was easy to maintain and were great value. I have no idea why i belong in such a minority the red team represents

Yeah it's the right strategy, most conversations that I followed about Nvidia reign in the high end was of people wanting amd to be more competitive so Nvidia would have to lower prices and they would buy Nvidia for cheaper, like they wouldn't actually consider buying amd anyway. Focus on that part of the market where you are more successfull and grow from there.

Mini PCs aren't cheap. It won't get them anywhere unless if they made it cheaper than making your own pc.

I watched various Nvidia's keynotes and everytime Jensen sounds like a bullshit seller...

Do not forget that more people are adopting Linux, which has AMD native support.

Forget APUs
AMD needs to offer 1080p and 1440p cards at half the price and they will gain market very fast.
if rumors are true, rdna4 will use cheap gddr6 and 4nm as the node while nvidia will use the more expensive 3nm node + gddr7.
AMD needs to reduce their profit margins and focuse more on volume.

Fun fact: Lisa Su and Jensen Huang are cousins. Now imagine the family meetings..

They could get to 40% market share in one generation if they take the hit and cut the prices dramatically and make a nice performing mid-range card much lower than the competition.

Poor people everywhere would buy one when it's time for an upgrade or a new build. I work in IT I've never had above a 70 series GeForce card since the 970.

Been with AMD ever since because of I'm not spending 1k on one component of my system.

Probably would never even spend $700 on a GPU ever.

I think AMD is making the right choice.

I'm not sure when GPUs gained this celebrity status where people had to have the latest and the best. Game devs in the past had to take a chance and produce games for the latest and greatest and hope there's enough market to make a profit. These days game devs aren't faced with that choice, they can make great games without having to utilise the latest gpu features, but they choose to spend money on the gimmick. I only ever turn setting on ultra to see what my gpu can handle then I dial back until I get the performance I like and never think about it again.

Well, thankfully there is Intel... umm... nevermind

One thing AMD should take more advantage of is Linux.
Everyone tells you to buy AMD GPUs if you want to run Linux, with how much people hate Win11 and more people than ever actually making the jump over to Linux, AMD could take some of their budget to aid in that development and also include it as a selling point for their cards in the marketing.

AMD was super successful adopting this strategy in the past. The HD3000, HD4000, HD5000, HD6000 and HD7000 GPUs all topped out at mid-range, but they had the superior architecture and their mid-range GPUs competed with Nvidia's high-end.
Hell even the r9 290x/390x wasn't high-end, it was in-between mid and high-end and it still competed with Nvidia's high-end.
But since Maxwell Nvidia has been on par or slightly worse or better architecture-wise.
