Proof The Christian Music Industry is Tricking You | Maverick City Music, Kirk Franklin, Brandon Lake, Hillsong, Elevation Worship and more. This is a Christian reaction to Maverick City Music featuring Kirk Franklin performing on The View with Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar. This is the issue with CCM. They love to appease the world and don't have a Christian Worldview or Biblical Perspective.

I notice a lot of people getting on him about this particular topic. He is talking about the new collaboration Maverick City has with Kirk and how it’s changed. The old music they put old was pure worship. In the new song “Kingdom”, Jesus’ name isn’t mentioned until the very end. When they performed at the BET awards, his name was never mentioned. Before they joined with Kirk, they never had a problem making it clear who they were singing about. My husband and I couldn’t get into the new album, but we do listen to the old music.

I was a " worship" leader for about twenty years. During that time, I could see how what was perceived to be worship music began to go progressively down hill. It finally reached a point where I had to walk away from all the feelings based "worship" which was actually nothing more than entertainment with a Christian label on it. The only ones being glorified were the singers and musicians. We did a song one Sunday written by Bob Dylan called "Saved". It was a really fast paced, rocking song. There were literally people dancing in the aisles. After the service, a visitor came up to me and said, "I'll come every Sunday if you'll do Bob Dylan songs! I was immediately convicted and asked the Lord to forgive me for robbing Him of His glory. I decided right then that I couldn't do this anymore. It was shortly after that when I walked away from being a "worship leader", and instead began to seek God for wisdom concerning what kind of worship pleases God. I love the old hymns, but even some of those are not doctrinally sound. So one has to be discerning even when choosing which ones to sing in worship to God. I'll tell you that what has strengthened me the most when singing to the LORD is something that I've been doing more and more lately, and that is singing the Psalms. There's no doubt that everyone of them are the God breathed word of God. And when you sing the Psalms, I believe there are a great cloud of witnesses in heaven who are singing them as well. I know that they can sing them much better than I can, but when I sing them, I know that God is honored and glorified. God bless.

I feel like the issue came when it became acceptable to divorce theology from worship. The thought is, “What we’re saying doesn’t matter when we sing; what matters is how we feel.” So what winds up happening is that lyrics are written solely to please the ear and stir up emotions. They keys, the tempo, and the chord progressions are all levied to illicit the desired emotional response. Repetition helps to shut down critical thinking. The lights, the smoke, the volume, and the charismatic attitude of the leaders pull the audience in. The group participation and an emphasis on the invisible, mystical nature of the experience serves to isolate the dissenters and force them to go against their reasoning and judgment. And so, everyone winds up in this euphoric state, which is attributed to the Holy Spirit. Anyone who doesn’t join up or complains is viewed as pharisaical and is told that they are quenching the Spirit. The failure then is this: neither the worshipper nor the singer has said anything of substance, God has not been glorified and the church has not been edified. Instead, you’ve traded all that for an experience—one that is as fleeting and demanding as an addiction to drugs.

If only there was a book in the Bible that taught us what worship should be like…

This is maybe the 3rd or 4th video that I've seen with someone "warning" people about Maverick City. Still waiting for the video where someone is seriously interceding on their behalf or even doing what the Bible says, reaching out to them personally and having a conversation before making the matter public. (Matthew 18:15-17) The world is watching us continuously bash each other and put people in heaven or hell instead of following the teachings of the Jesus we claim to follow on these matters. In another video by a brother who claims God showed him things about this group, Naomi Raine, a member of Maverick City, commented on his video that she is available to talk anytime. From what I've seen, he never responded. Definitely not a good look. All I know to do on my end is to pray because I know I am far perfect and need the grace and mercy of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit to live a life that is pleasing to God.

I was once told that we should not fill our ears with "Christian" songs that don't even mention the NAME of Jesus. I find it funny that you are lumping Maverick City Music with Kirk Franklin. Their music couldn't be any different. You'd be hard pressed to find any MCM songs w/out the name of Jesus, Yahweh or Jehovah included. Can't say the same for Kirk.

There is one thing I'd like to remind you of. You're not God. You're not Jesus. You don't have a solid ground to stand on when rebuking others. I think staying within the grounds of encouraging folks to be sold out for Jesus would serve you better than judging someone else's ministry. Kirk Franklin has been able to reach folks who would have never been reached with the Gospel. Most new baby Christians love him, until they get more solid foods. Everyone serves their purpose in our ultimate purpose - which is saving souls. Don't judge a man by the worse days of his life. I'm sure you're not going to want that to be the case on judgement day for you.

I completely agree with your argument that Gospel and Christian music are getting too chummy with culture. I just don't see the argument for turning MCM into the boogey man. They're far from the worse offenders, and should not be the poster children for "selling out" to culture.

You don't have to worry
And don't you be afraid
Joy comes in the morning
Troubles they don't last always
For there's a friend named JESUS
Who will wipe your tears away
And if your heart is broken
Just lift your hands and say

Eh! This is a little bit of a reach! Lol. Kirk and Mav are pretty clear on what they believe. This song is CLEARLY a gospel song. In fact every Maverick song is clearly a gospel song. To pick this one song and create an entire theory on what they BELIEVE is weird to me. They don’t sing cross over music. Every song promotes Jesus. What about Jireh, what about promises, what about most beautiful, what about refiner? I’m sorry but to dismiss an entire body of work that clearly promotes Jesus is a little disingenuous. Are they perfect? Nope. Do I agree with everything they do? Nope. But I’m sure i could say they same about you if you were in that kind of spot light. Just as I’m sure some would same the same about me.

Lastly, The world doesn’t have to hate them. You and the church do a good enough job. These are young people who CHOOSE to sing Christian music. This post would apply to artist like Lauren Daigo or lecrae. Not Kirk who has promoted Jesus for decades or Mav who literally writes and sing worship music.

" Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God."-James 4:4." Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever."-1st Jn. 2:15-17.

Let's kindly pray for them as the Bible instructed. I believe Maverick city started so well, their music and worship resonated with so many and myself included. I pray they come back to their first love❤️

The church needs to turn back to holiness and the fear of the lord. “Gal 5:16” Reminds us to, walk in the spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh… Walk in the spirit and allow the Holy Spirit to led you into the Truth of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah to the soon coming King.

There's one thing I've learnt from my spiritual mum and dad that if people have true hunger for God HE will never let us go astray. Like TOTAL surrender and putting HIM and HIS kingdom first but most people don't and thus they are so easily deceived. I'm not super great or pious or perfect but God never let me got deeper into these bands and Chosen series etc. Praying that people hunger for GOD

I saw Mav City live about a year ago...and they literally sang the name of Jesus for TEN MINUTES (maybe more) nonstop at the very beginning of their concert. Like only "Jesus" over and over again. So...not sure you know what you're talking about when you say they somehow never say Jesus...

Wow! This is another conformation for me! I quit listening a well known Christian radio station. I got so tired of the "its about me" lyrics. Pretty sad when you don't know if the song is about God or your boyfriend. 😬 I also left a church I attended for 20 yrs. Messages progressively became more and more watered down and the music became the "selling point". I thank God everyday for directing me to a new church where the pastor teaches verse by verse and the music is a mix of hymns and counterpart music. What a blessing the band does not drown out the people's voices!! Love this channel!!!!

I understand what you are saying. However, many people have came to know Jesus and The Holy Spirit through Maverick City. They are a vessel for good. I think it is sortof common sense they’re singing to worship God. I understand so many people aren’t Biblically sound and book smart but sometimes it’s about cracking the door open for someone to read up for themselves. Every time I listen to their songs I feel The Holy Spirit guiding me towards service to God. Thanks for sharing ! I do appreciate your perspective and it is important to educate ourselves and not lead anyone astray if we can help. I feel as though their hearts are good and in the right place, but we all fall short of the Kingdom of Heaven. Praying for everybody in this because it’s difficult deep stuff! God is love :)

I understand what you are saying and agree with some of it. Or at the very least can see your argument and find where it might be viewed that way. I do feel the need to caution you though, messing with someone else’s anointing and casting judgment upon their walk with Christ is equally sinful. I cannot speak to what Kirk Franklin does or doesn’t do when it comes to his music or anything else. But constantly repeating how Jesus was hated as your only real basis for why him being in a secular sphere is an oversimplification and very much also not totally accurate. It ignores that Jesus was also very well loved in the villages and towns he visited. That people sought out his advice, and revered his teachings. That he drew very large crowds that he fed and spoke to, to the point the woman knew if she could just touch His cloak she’d be healed and the crowd was so large for Him she had to crawl to do so. Yes, Jesus was hated by authorities and the churches who wanted to continue to follow old doctrines and believes that were evil or simply fed the coin purses of the wealthy elite which led to his crucifixion, and for those who claimed to love him before to turn away. But it doesn’t change the fact that He didn’t hang out around only His believers. Who would He reach if He only ever talked to those who already knew Him? He talked and treated everyone with respect, regardless of what they believed when he arrived or after he left, and kept his messaging consistent. That salvation goes through the belief of him in your heart and following his plan for you but that it’s a choice because He and His father will not override your free will, for what love would that be? His message was simple without any strings. Love me. Follow me. Love others as I have loved you. Do the right thing because that’s what I want for you. Doctrines and assignation of how and what to believe and when and why and how often are man made things and comes from great hubris to believe you can decide for God who is good enough to be a representative of Him or whether what He may have called for them to do is good enough. It’s really no different than the heretics. The actual answer is God is always speaking, always reaching. He is the maker of all and will use even the sinful to reach the ones that need Him. Because He commands all, and even evil in the end has to bow before Him. It’s your responsibility as a Christian to listen and take away what you feel God needs you to hear, check the rest against scripture and how you feel God is leading you in your walk, and not to take everything everyone says as absolute final fact. But also, to remember that what the person might be saying is incorrect or a veil over something deeper, but if that is the case God is more than capable of taking care of it Himself. He allows things, until He doesn’t anymore. And true faith comes from being able to trust that and feel at peace in your soul with your own personal walk with Him.

Sandi Patty and Twila Paris's music has never tricked me. I enjoy listening to their music. I always try to pay attention to words in their songs, which has and still brings me closer to Jesus. Jesus is one of my best friends. He has always been there for me. Even when I astray from Jesus, he always welcomes me back in with open arms. I am thankful for 1980's and 1990's Christian music. God Bless - Jason

Have you really heard music from Maverick City? God is lifted trough scripture and also trough their own testimonies. Prime examples: million little miracles, build your church, promises. I understand that we should not alter Worship music to comply with the world needs but what Maverick music has tried to do is share their experience and love for God trough music. If you go to their concerts, they preach the word of God and share their testimonies. I think maybe having a conversation with them will help you understand.
