That watch advice is too real. If my hr is higher than normal to start my run I get so frustrated and messed up mentally

Switching up the routes really resonates with me. I do all of my long runs in a different city then my shorter runs.

Bro, finally someone that appreciates some good soundtracks on a good run! I always put on action movie soundtracks when we have swim practices. Ik everyone hates it, but that’s the only times I do good 😂

“There’s nothing wrong with listening to music on your runs.” I’m so glad you clarified that😂

I’d recommend finding a running partner. I do most of my runs alone on my HS team because I’m too fast for my teammates to hang with me, but on super long 14+ mile days I have a friend from another nearby high school run with me. It’s so much easier to motivate yourself when you’re with someone at or around your ability level!

Running without looking at a watch or even ditching it all together is the best advice I can give someone who’s starting to run. Find loops that are the distances you wanna run and run based on feel

I can consistently run 1.5 miles 😅 I had surgery back in October. My goal is to run a marathon one day 🥳 thanks for sharing your tips

SO TRUE! Legit WHENEVER I start running, it is seriously the most difficult part, physically. But, give it 20 minutes, and I'm down! Warming up the body always makes the run feel so much more enjoyable.

Thank you so so much!!!! Today I was checking my watch and I was suffering every minute then I stopped checking it and I felt time passed faster :)

Very good tips! I think the music tip has another benefit, if you're using typing songs subconsciously you know they are 3-5 minutes long and that will make you do the mental math in your head and not let you zone out.

I did what you said and it did help me a lot. I started slow and I was able to speed up after a while and get some distance. I was able to do about 3 miles on slow run with a few stops for water. But I was so exited. Thank you so much. !

Changing routes and disable miles vibration, it helps a lot.

As someone who has a bad habit of starting their run really fast and then getting tired quickly, my best tip is to have a running playlist which starts with slow song and the songs get increasingly faster. This helps me keep a steady pace and when I’m tired towards the end of the run it gives me more motivation ❤❤❤

What i used to before i hurt my back. Was i used certain points to use as land marks to pass on my runs. Say a certain light post was about a mile or half mile away. I'd run to that light post and mentally check that off my list like a level in a videogame and do that if i ever felt tired.

All great tips. Couldn’t agree more about ignoring technology for the first 10-15 min (or longer if there’s some extra rust in there!).

This might sound weird, but I like opera music for running.
