Did you know about this? I wonder why you can push it down in the first place... #nintendo #shorts #NES #secrets #tips #Mario #gaming #retrogaming #nostalgia

The first time I played an NES I did this. My uncle freaked out when he saw me do this.

It's a feature to prevent your snotty younger siblings from yanking out the game when they don't get "their turn"

Anyone with a game Genie already knows this was a thing

I remember jamming in a second game in to hold the first one down when the spring would break.

It took me so long to realise this was a thing, and I was even aware of the Game Genie at the time.

In all likelihood it's a new pin connector that's pins aren't broken in yet. By design, the NES doesn't work like this. You MUST push down if the connector is OEM.

The cartridge comes in at an angle connecting to just the bottom 36pins. Then, when pushed down, the remaining 36pins along the top make their connection.

This is why it's called a 72pin connector. It's also referred to as a ZIF connector. ZIF meaning Zero Insertion Force.

A bit misleading, fully original NES slots DON’T make contact without being pushed down. You can only do this on consoles that have had the cartridge slot replaced at some point.

Actually you have a replacement pin, my original NES had to be pressed down so that the angle of the cartridge was flat against the pins, aftermarket pin connectors are so tight that they make contact with the cartridge before being pushed down.

ACTUALLY… any original NES had to be pressed down in order to make a connection to the pins. Anyone who took their broken NES apart would have discovered this. The guy in the video has a aftermarket modified NES. He would know this if he grew up with the system.

All it does is lock it my cousin use to play them like that without locking the cartridge down for the same reason he said it was bad on the pins Nintendo probably realized that later on hahaha

Duck is the common name for numerous species of waterfowl in the family Anatidae. Ducks are generally smaller and shorter-necked than swans and geese, which are members of the same family. Divided among several subfamilies, they are a form taxon; they do not represent a monophyletic group (the group of all descendants of a single common ancestral species), since swans and geese are not considered ducks. Ducks are mostly aquatic birds, and may be found in both fresh water and sea water.

Ducks are sometimes confused with several types of unrelated water birds with similar forms, such as loons or divers, grebes, gallinules and coots.

If you don't push down, the pins might disconnect if the console moves, which wasn't uncommon due to the wired controllers. Pushing the cartridge down is a feature inserted by the developers, it's how it's supposed to be and we don't need to overthink it.

Throughout all my years of playing my NES, I never pushed the cartridge down. For some reason, the games simply wouldn't load if it was pushed down.

When I first got my NES, the cartridge reader was so bad that it wouldn’t work when it wasn’t pushed down, but I was able to replace it, and now it works

Literally blowing my mind with these videos. And I thought I knew those systems so well.

I used to flip out and get paranoid if someone bumped my Nintendo on accident and the damn game froze. I remember I was almost to Dracula’s Castle in Simon’s Quest and my brother accidentally bumped the Nintendo and froze the game. My Mom came in clutch and wrote my password down in the background when I died beforehand.

I learned this years ago, because I had a game genie....
