One mistake I made was, when my teen was already having high emotions, I overreacted to it instead of keeping my calm. It really made things worse till I realized that when your teen is going through a storm, jumping into the storm with them is not the way to help, rather I should throw the safety net from a calm side of the ocean.
As a parent it can seem hard to be calm especially when you see your teen about to or in a dangerous situation and we panic and out of fear come over overreaction to the situation.

It's hard to let natural consequences unfold, especially after you've invested so much effort, only to watch it seemingly go to waste. However, you're right. This approach was what finally helped my oldest grasp the importance of their actions and set them on a better path. It was incredibly painful to watch and doing nothing felt like the toughest choice, but I now realize it was worth it. My mother wasn't perfect in many ways, and with my brother, she never enforced real consequences or stuck to her punishments, which negatively affected him throughout his adult life. His life was a sad story of wasted potential, despite his kind heart and promise. I've come to understand that what's easy for a parent isn't always what's best for the child. Parenting is about accepting this tough reality, knowing full well they might not appreciate or understand your actions until they're older, perhaps not until they're living on their own or have children themselves. So, don't expect immediate gratitude. Do your best and the results are what they are we are human as are they.

One mistake I've made is: Trying to find out what is wrong with my teen when he is especially tight, seems angry, and is shut down. It never ends how I want it to end. I have started to say: I'm here for you if you want to talk. You are a good person and are very much loved...being a human is hard, sometimes. I used the tips from your videos! Totally open to hear more on this topic and on maybe naming emotions. I think I could help my teen better on that front. Thanks for your awesome content. T

When the phrase : "You're too sensitive" appeared i sadly understood the pain a teen feels when they hear that phrase.

I've probably asked my son to stop being hyper-reactive. But, he goes through days and phases where he will only be cruel, snapping at me constantly when I say something like "Good morning." But, then if I ask him to stop literally chanting insults at me, he will go in his room and not talk at all. Maybe I already ruined things and I'm not sure how.
