Starting my training in a few weeks, I can only hope my instructor is that good. 51 years in the waiting, finally have the chance to make this my reality. So excited.

I thought I was bored for a second before I realized I was learning a lot. It seems almost impossible to learn enough to fly but there is extremely solid material to learn from in this video.

This is one great student. He's a quick learner. Way to go!!!

To add: You can demo with your students the mechanical technique of advancing the throttle control (3 seconds in one continuous, methodical motion) while still in the chocks and the engine not running. Also a good technique is to talk the student through the power check during takeoff during the run-up. Students are required to ensure engine instruments are indicating normally (oil temp, pressure) and confirm full static power on the check ride. This should done in the first 6 seconds of the initial takeoff run (3 seconds add power, 3 seconds until engine displays full power). Within the next few seconds after, the airspeed indicator will be displaying a value and can be met with an "airspeed alive" callout. It is a bit unorthodox, but I actually demo rejected takeoff, taxi back, then let the student do a rejected takeoff, taxi back do the run-up again and then the student does the actual takeoff and is 10X more improved than talking a cold, beginner takeoff - straight away. PLUS, BIG PLUS...it allows me to drill into the student the IMPORTANCE of checking final, checklist usage, and comfort with decelerating the airplane and exiting the runway ALL before doing their very first takeoff. Something to think about.

Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this, thanks for posting! I was taking PPL lessons years ago but had to quit for health reasons, so now I'm stuck with just a flight sim, but I like to be as realistic as possible, and these videos help enormously.

I am starting flight school tomorrow. 43 now. Was kept out due to diabetes. With the new rule changes, I am finally seeing some light. I’m so excited. Videos like this have been awesome to watch.

Thanks so much for this video. I am waiting for my spot to open and this gave me great insight into what I can expect. If you’re still here I’ll buy you lunch for a chance to pick your brain.

You should inform everyone else you’re clear of the runway once you’ve crossed the threshold line, BEFORE you do your checklist! This would be common courtesy so as to not hold up traffic while you’re doing your “after-landing” checklist. Otherwise, good first flight.
Btw, were there squirrels in the beginning? Your camerawoman was very easily distracted.

I’d love to hear this, but I can’t. Looks like a great lesson but volume needs some work.

CAN u say perfection "boys and girls"? WHAT'S THAT U SAID... this instructional video? I knew u could. LMAO Great instruction... highly motivated student... this seems so perfect, Hollywood couldn't have done a better job. Bought back many memories. I'm retired ATC and a private multi-engine rated pilot. Nice to see traditions surviving. Good job guys and gal.

Wow, I owned a 150 and a 182 plus rented several 172's, I have never seen so many fuel check points. No wonder he needs a quart size container to check them. Average is 3 on those small planes. I would think extended range tanks would make it 5 or 6. I would like to know what kind of fuel system it has to have them toward leading edge of wing.
