Sorry for some of the audio issues but it should be manageable!

E-Golf is extremely underrated. You can lift and swap in all of the suspension mods from your GTI's into it, find a wreck to swap out interiors and sound system.

While the Merc is a great little car, be warned that neither Merc nor Tesla want anything to do with it any more. You’ll have a hell of a time getting any problems fixed, even mundane non-EV issues, since the B-series wasn’t sold in North America other than as this EV, so even body panels and interior trim are hard to get without importing.

The Golf has the benefit of being a Golf. Non-powertrain parts are everywhere.

We bought a 2016 Nissan Leaf back in June for $5, 000 after the EV Tax credit. I picked this one because it still had 11 bars.
I drive it to work & has worked great as a commuter car. You do have to watch the range on these especially if you have hills to climb. The power is great & they are fun to drive. I charge using the simple 110 VAC plug in my garage & charges overnight.

18:10 The thing to remember with the Spark EV is that the CCS DC fast charging was optional, and it can be very difficult to get that information from dealerships. If you're buying online, I'd recommend have a video chat with the sales person and have them actually show you the charging port to confirm it has the DC pins.
That being said, the Spark EVs with DCFC would be right up Kyle's alley in terms of charging speeds: 10% to 80% in under 20 minutes on a 150 A charger. That might still only be 50 to 60 miles of range at freeway speeds, but the stops are quick.

The E-Golf is the clear winner. Tons of cheap parts with a solid base.

Get a used Volt. You can road trip it with zero planning and daily it without ever touching the gas tank.

This video should go viral. Every gas car person I know are curious about EV but for their first EV they don’t want to spend much only to feel regret after buying. A way to access low cost entry point while not getting a lemon is actually the information people need to move forward.

Thanks for mentioning the Volt! The best GM electric vehicle they have built and blows away all PHEV vehicles offered today.

I think the single biggest factor that needs to be considered when buying older, used EVs is DC fast charging. Most of the EVs that sell for $5, 000 or less predate DC fast charging as a standard. For many people, that might not be a factor, if they are only using it as a secondary, around-town car. However, if you're going in with the expectation of being able to top up the car in 20 to 30 minutes, understand that many of the cheaper cars are cheaper because that option was omitted. The good news is that, even in the case of older DC charging standards like CHAdeMO, adapters are available.

I started with the Leaf. It was a good car for me for the daily commute and local travel. Was hard because there weren't really any public chargers back then so summer range was more than adequate for the run to work, get groceries, run errands. Winter range got tight and you had to pay attention. Really it was the range that was the limiting factor and why I moved on. For most routine driving a Leaf will work as long as you don't have a degraded battery. You aren't going to be using NAV and all the bells and whistles of new EVs. It really is just treated like a car that you refuel at home. Leaf, iMiev, Spark come to mind as the place to start looking for limited range EVs that are likely going to be in the affordable price range. If you can stretch the budget just a little bit then Bolt's are starting to get into a very affordable price bracket possibly with a new battery. The eGolf still looks good.

I love my 2020 "final edition" e-Golf. Got it for what would be roughly 20k USD here in Norway and converting currency. It had less than 20k miles on it.
Pretty sure the only thing missing in my Golf is the upgraded audio system with a subwoofer in the trunk. I can do like 100-110 miles on 70% of the battery in summer. The car often claims 140+ miles on a fully charged battery.

Very interesting information. You come across as VERY knowledgable and honest. Thank you! Enjoyed the segment on the 2023 1/2 Mach e. That vehicle is tempting. The Nissan Leaf leases in the Denver are are hard to beat. I just made may December payment of $142 (NO MONEY DOWN) for a 2024 Leaf Plus, with the big 62 Kw battery. Been driving in for 6 months. Love the car, which I didn't need but wanted to experiment with an EV. My Leaf has great power, comfortable, quiet and fun to drive. I plug it in at home on a 120v outlet and thats it. Once in a while, with fast charge. I made a road trip from Evergreen CO to Lincoln, NE. About 500 miles. Started at 9:30 am and arrived at 11:15 pm. It was a slow trip! Fast charged about 5 times, more often than needed but didn't what to get stranded. Used Chademo's at Wal-Mart's along the way. Pretty slow but no issues like battery over heating. Anyway, with such cheap leases available on Nissan Leafs AND Aryia's, why spend the money on a 10-15 year old EV? Cash flow your lease and NO repair costs under warranty. Love the info on older EV's. It's a learning process!

It’d be cool if you used your viewers to get names of places around the country that can fix battery packs so we can find the closest shop to where we live. I’d also love to see if you can get a Leaf Battery yanked and use it as a Powerwall.
