Hi am Assumpta and am from Nigeria.
My husband is booked for this surgery(ACDF) on Tuesday. He had an accident last month (5June). He has not been able to move his left arm since the accident, though he feels sensations and is able to move his fingers. Doctors said he has a bulge in his C5 and that its the cause of the weakness and numbness he is feeling. They are giving us zero chances that he will move that arm again and are saying the surgery is mainly to mitigate further damage in the future.

My husband can still walk around on his own, but have neck pain, inability to turn his neck especially the left side, shock down both arms when he leans forward, tingling sensation on his fingers, cold and sweat phases on the left arm, and doctors are suspecting muscle wasting on the upper arm.

Please I will like to hear you own opinion and do you think he will benefit from the surgery?

Wouldnt a disc replacement be better for mobility? Also does the plate cause pressure on the throat making it difficult to eat.

Do the ends of the screws go through the vertebrae? What about the spinal cord? Not sure of the length of the screws or the depth of the vertebrae.
