I had this done today L5-S1 for a bad herniated disc…It went very well. It is amazing for my sciatica pain. I have no more pain or cramps or any sciatic pains down the leg. I had those awfull pain for 5 months now, injection, physio, Chiro didn’t help. I wasn’t able to sit anymore and walking was very difficult and Painfull and on Dilodid pills multiple times a day. Surgery didn’t take long, under two hours without any complications. I am so gratfull. I can walk now short distances and stand up/down by myself hours after the surgery. I know that pain killers will go in a fews days/week but I’m very confident that it will be a win. Only now… not feeling down the extremely bad cramps and pain down my leg is worth it. We’ll see how it goes from here but i had no other option, when pain is unbearable… you can’t live like. Take care alls!

What long term risks are there?
The German disc replacement surgery has always been popular because these fusions had a high risk of major long term issues in the nearest disc eventually?

I've been watching a lot videos about this procedure. I am having the procedure on May 21, 2024. It is a long time coming. I've had severe back and leg pain since 2014. I was initially referred to physical therapy at which time my hips starting hurting badly resulting in total hip replacements in July 2022 (left hip) and May 2023 (right hip). I was hoping that the hip replacements would ease my back pain. No such luck. I am 64 years old and had three back surgeries at the age of 12. I have an excellent neurosurgeon who has spelled out the pros and cons of the procedure, so I'm ready for the journey. I was recently diagnosed with something called arachnoiditis which is a painful chronic condition probably caused by all of the surgeries and injections. It has been a battle. I am a college professor and have been teaching completely online since the pandemic. It has been a Godsend to able to keep my job without having to stand in front of a class. In my present condition, I would not be able to stand. I am planning to teach one on-campus class and four online during fall semester. I miss seeing my students in person. Believe it or not, I'm looking forward to the surgery in hopes of some pain relief!

What reason’s are there to conduct a PLIF over the ALIF and vice versa. Both procedures seem to address the same issue, any reason to incise from the front or back?

Bonsoir a tous.
😢. J'ai 59 ans. Merci ❤a ceux qui pourront me donner leurs vécu..
