My grandma always told me, “pretty is as pretty does”! Meaning if you act ugly people will see you as ugly, but if you act nice & pretty that’s how people will see you!!! ❤ Oh how I miss her!!!

I'm born and raised in New Jersey - the New York Metropolitan area, but went to college in Texas with lots of kids from TX, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, etc., etc. Talk about cultural shock! I Heard lots of new accents, phrases and expressions I'd never heard before. And yes, one of them that stuck with me was about acting 'ugly', just as the man in the video catalogued. And yep that's an expression I use to this very day because it sums up so many things (so many bad behaviors and attitudes) so very well. And Allie nodding along in approval in the background made me smile - I feel ya - I get it. 😊

Yes, my grandmother was very religious and would tell me, and my siblings, to “stop being ugly”, if we were mean to each other. She passed away in 1980, and I still miss her. (She was raised in Alabama). 🥲

24 years now in east TN, I had 3 heart surgeries just before the move (birth defect).
I really thought it was somehow tattooed on my forehead everytime I heard “bless your heart”😂
I would often reply “Yes HE has!”

Andy Griffith always told Opie, and my husband always tells our kids, "Do a good day's work and act like somebody!" I hear, "Don't be ugly, " and "Now you're just bein' ugly!" a lot from people where I live.
