New G87 is fire 🔥
Love it or hate it. I love it.

I think it actually looks pretty good black and red

If I was in the market for an M4, I would get this G87 M2 in a heartbeat. I would even consider the G87 if I was in the market for a G80 with the big difference being 4 vs 2 doors. I agree with your closing statement. It's no longer the smaller, underdog everyone fell in love with with the F87 generation. I saw a similar built G87 as this one in your video on the road last week and it looked good in person. Then yesterday I saw someone with a 2021 F87 Competition in Hockenheim Silver with suspension, exhaust and performance parts and just looked like it wil age very well.

Few years down line you’ll be talking how great this car is. The car is absolutely brilliant

These are the things I love about this car, and that is why I ordered one.

You get the epic S58 engine
You get a 6-speed manual
You get probably the last M2 car that is not electrified in any way
You get a true rear wheel drive car
You get the adaptive suspension.

The design has grown on me and I think it will continue to do so. At least it doesn't look like any other car out there right now.

As a former Dinan E36 M3 and Dinan E46 M3 owner and a new G87 M2 owner, this review is pretty accurate.

The car, due to weight, really carries a ton of speed into corners. Unlike the E46M3, you go from understeer to oversteer very quickly. There's a definitely some moving around in the rear end that probably can be fixed with monoballs and thicker end links.

Great video. I am happy i was able to snatch an OG m2 at a reasonable price. Fell in love with the looks the day i laid eyes on it.

Great review. I also previously owned an OG M2 and M2C and had intentions to get the G87. But, I made the exact same observations and came to the same conclusion as yourself. This car is designed for people who want a cheaper M4, not an M2.

It’s ugly - sticking wit my M2 Competition 6 spd and my guess is I won’t be selling it for at least a decade.
Good review 👍 I remember watching your OG M2 and competition videos. Pretty sure I remember you driving in the snow - I am hunting for a winter set for mine now before the weather breaks.

Spot on.
I appreciate you honest objective reviews.
Bought my M2C largely on your reviews.
Also got a miltek.

To me this car has matured in the right direction. 1st gen M2 is too twitchy near the limit, with cheap outdated interior. BMW has totally fixed it with this gen. Its a lot safer, more confident at higher speeds, with beautiful interior ( that’s where you spend all your time with the car ). This is a car for someone who’s looking for a total package. An amazing daily driver that kills it on the weekends. Btw, 6 speed is the way to go.

Thank you for the review. I just got the 2024 G87 M2 and took it to the canyons with my friend driving the 2023 M4 comp. I honestly like the overall usability of the car with larger back seats and the bigger usable trunk. I have two teenage kids and a dog. This is not our primary car but when I need the extra space it is very usable for short distances. It's going to be a daily car to drive to work and back. On the weekends will hit the canyons for "spirited" driving and going to the beach. Maybe I'll take it to the track once in a while. I think if you want an M2 track car then get a used F87 and modify it to your liking. In person the G87 looks better then in the videos or pictures and I get a lot of looks from people with thumbs up. I think in general the reviews for the G87 have been very critical in a negative manner and I don't think it's fair for the car. I think this comes from hard core M enthusiasts that look at these as track cars. The reality is for most people it's a very usable daily driver who occasionally will do "spirted" driving or take it to the track for fun. If you want a race car, this is not for you and you will be disappointed. I'm very happy with my decision.

i think it's the best looking BMW in their line-up

We'll no doubt look back at this car and miss it, mainly because of the formula it offers, rwd, 6 speed, inline 6, but that'll be most sports cars of this time or past. When shopping for a used M2, i have a suspicion that the previous generation is going to be harder to get. I've owned an OG LCI, and currently an M2c, and these cars have an interior that'll age well and an exterior that'll be compared to that of the e46 generation m3's, timeless. As far as replacing it, i dont see the g platform as a replacement, honestly, at the time of writing im interested in trying out something new and dying such as the mustang dark horse, ive never owned a mustang or a rwd v8 car but besides the insane screen on the inside and squished rear end look, ive been seeing reviewers light up when driving them but ideally if i can afford it a CT5 V Blackwing.

I still own my F87. Despite modifying almost every car I have ever owned, I have kept the M2 bone stock. I could not be happier. I love the M2. It is the right size, it looks amazing, and despite not having a "true M" power plant and being "under powered, " it makes me smile every single time I drive it. It is a modern classic. Even better, there are not many floating around on the roads. In fact, I rarely see another F87 M2, ever. And best of all, I use mine as a daily. 5.5-years of ownership, 62, 700 miles into it, and my only major investment have been new brakes and rotors. Beyond that, I have only had to buy tires and change the oil. It has been a dream to own. I intend to hold onto it until I depart this earthly realm. It's become that much fun to own and drive. The new G87 M2 clearly fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Nothing about it is appealing. None of it fits. One of things that I always love about M cars is how the stance of the car is accentuated by a fat backside, with the tire size always perfectly selected so that when you looked at the car from any angle, you knew it was a performance car. Despite the new M2s giant sized tires, because its weirdly shaped w/bad angles, the rear tires look too skinny, which is insane. That's probably just a me thing, but that's one of my biggest peeves. The G87 will leave me for dead from a dig or from a roll, but I'll always look and sound better and have more change in my pockets.

Well it’s my perception/opinion that most reviewers are very critical or highlight their dislikes about the car compared to the previous gen M2. If I had to go by the opinions of the YouTuber journalists then I would not have even looked at the car, much less driven the car. I’m glad I looked, I drove, and I bought the car. To me it’s excellent in every way.

F87 owner here. Totally agree especially the ZF8 and weight. Would rather go for the G82.

I was directed to this video from a static article in Motor I (I think that's the name). I am impressed by this presenter's sober delivery--no drama--as well as candor, objectivity, and citing of figures including body dimensions that are seldom mentioned. His viewpoint reminds me of British automotive journalist LJK Setright whose ideal car would have been created by a JV between Alec Issigonis and Colin Chapman. I too am in agreement. The magic of the first 3 series (as well as of the first 5 series) was due to BMW's minimalist approach that was refreshing in the car industry of that time (and now too?), and a logical development from the original 2 series (the boxy 1600 and 2002 in the USA). I cannot afford to own more than one car at a time so I currently have a BMW i3 that I think represents BMW's most innovative production car in recent time--to me the best since the Z1 (and to a lesser degree the 1 series). Glad to be a new subscriber here.
