Today I talk about my garage kept 2013 BMW 528I Msport with 58,000 miles problems. Here are the problems (not in order)
1. Both headlights fog up when there is moderate to heavy rain (water in headlight)
2. The motor mounts went bad (started feeling vibrations around 42,000 Miles)
3. The Boost pipe had a huge crack where it entered the engine block
4. The charge pipe had a hairline crack
5. The Air condition compressor and components needed to be changed due to failure
6. Sunroof has bubble
7. Unlock/ Lock sensors went bad for driver and passenger door
8. Radio unit controls failed
9. Rotors warped twice and (i dont ride the brakes, overheat them, or brake very hard)

The Costs
1. ~$400- 600 per light
2. ~$100 for parts and $1200 for labor not including shop fee and tax and possible rental. Dealer quoted me around $1800
3. ~$150 not including labor
4.~$150 not including labor
5.~$1500 with discount not including rental car or tax
6. not sure havent considered changing yet
7. ~$500 (this is how much it cost for the door lock actuator)
8. ~$350 X2 = $700 roughly although i dont remember for sure

You can save quite a bit if you do the work yourself, but if not there you have it!

This was my experience with this car. Hopefully yours is better

Ima be straight up with you as a person who not only ones a BMW and also repairs BMWs. Motor mounts that fail at 50k miles you drove the vehicle very aggressively. Aggressive driving kills motor mounts faster, explains your warped rotors to. Your bad motor mounts is what led to your cracked pipes and bad transmission mount believe it or not..
What really happened is you neglected to repair the vehicle when you had one bad motor mount which caused extreme stress on your other mounts on top of your driving habits, road conditions you may be traveling on etc over time the others eventually failed to which explains your transmission mount failure.
Spend the money on racing/High speed performance rotors and pads your aggressive driving comes with aggressive breaking.

Also ownership of a BMW is expensive as for any luxury cars, how they are driven, and maintained plays a huge role on how much time u spend fixing stuff.

You want to own a BMW but honestly it sounds like you can’t afford the maintenance and or repairs... Well maybe you should go back to a GM because an imported German car is not going to be cheap to fix unless you fix it yourself. Parts are also high.

Also change your oil filter housing seal they eventually leak....

Ive always been amazed, when these cars first came out, that it idled like a diesel engine. Same sound as a diesel engine..

I have never had any experience with the 528i. From my experience, the 535i is a very well vehicle.

Replaced both my headlights The factory seals go bad. Replaced water pump and heater fan too. Bad plastic smell was coming into the car. No issue with oil leaks or broken plastic pipes.

Sounds like it's pretty reliable to me. The cracked plastic stuff is the same as all turbocharged engines. And BMW their cars to run hot to get better fuel economy.

I’ve had 0 build or mechanical problems on my 2015 528 and I’m at 95000. In fact it’s been the most problem free car I’ve owned so far.

Man that sucks that you had such a bad experience. Personally my 2014 535i has been my most reliable car ever. Never had any of the issues that you have had. I think your issue is that you need to find a mechanic instead of going to a dealership.

the driver/passenger door plastic
Everything else you mentioned screams "car partially or fully drowned" or plain "regular maintenance"
engine mounts, intercooler pipe, air-inlet pipe....all normal maintenance
fogging lights, radio buttons, amplifier, keyless sensor, abnormal, and have '"flooding" experience written all over them.

Thanks for the informative video.
I was looking into buying a used one.
I feel bad for you.
My wife's 2005 Toyota Solara has nowhere near the amount of problems you experienced. Given her car is not performance oriented by a long shot, but it's been a true champion.

Sounds like an extended warranty goes a long way with these.

It's probably your vehicle but mine still held up pretty good.

I have a 2012 528i with 180k miles it has been a very nice drive experience but it has also been very costly, the timing valves are meant to go bad after so long and basically explode so it will have to be done again. The turbo is gone forsure in mine and a drivetrain malfunction light appears now which the turbo cost 3k$ new plus labor if you took it to a shop. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on the car already and purchased it for much more than it’s valued at now which is disappointing. It has never broke down on me but days the drivetrain malfunction warning light will appear on the center console and the car will go very high into Rpm’s and then all of a sudden let out a lot of boost gaining about 10mph and it feels like it’s about to brake down. The car broke down on me after a 1 hour trip recently and my electric pump had to be replaced as well as the thermostat which set me back because I didn’t have a car while it was in the shop. Idk I love the car and I want to keep it, but to enjoy it you will always have to be ready to spend big bucks out of your pocket. (:

im sorry that happened to you bro. i just ordered a 2014 f10 and like you aid in the description you can save literally thousands just by maintaining the vehicle on your own

Headlights fogging up takes like 10 seconds to fix tbh. Pop the hood and open the top of the headlights to let the moisture out and put the cap back on next time you get in.

I have had my 2013 BMW 528 I since I bought it 2016. I have had to replace the turbo, and brakes, of course. I am at 106000 miles. It needs brakes and motor mounts if I want to stop the vibrating. It needs a valve cover. It needs an oil filter seal and the gasket. Inside.
Everything works and is in wonderful condition, from the leather to the plastic to the sunroof. This guy must have had a lemon!

I bought a used 2016 with 56k miles. The car drives great, has good acceleration, AC is fine. I have no complaints. This model also gets great gas mileage.

That's what you get with a 4 cylinder turbo, most manufacturers are the same. Older cars were much better built. 6 cylinder normally aspirated engines are less fussy, less complicated and much more reliable
