Thank you for watching our ear wax removal video today. The ear wax extraction featured in todays video was carried out using endoscopic microsuction. This procedure uses a small camera called an endoscope to visualise inside the ear canal whilst a small suction tube is inserted to gently remove ear wax.

Ear wax plays a vital role in ear health. It helps to prevent ear infection and helps with ear cleaning by picking up any dirt or debris that accumulates in the ear canal. Normally this ear wax would fall out of the ear taking any dirt or debris with it.

How to remove ear wax?

Many people use q-tips/cotton buds for ear wax removal at home this is one of the worst things you can put into the ear as this can lead to an increased ear wax buildup or in extreme cases impacted ear wax. The best way to remove ear wax is to let your ears clean themselves and not to put anything smaller than your elbow in your ears!

How do I know if I have an earwax blockage?

If you experience a change in your hearing, discomfort in the ear or jaw or a feeling of fullness in the ear canal you may have an ear wax blockage. Our advice is to speak to your Doctor or local Audiologist who can take a look in your ears and assess whether ear cleaning is needed.

my mom has to go to the ENT next week for a hearing test and as one of her main caretakers, I will be going along. Since finding this channel during the pandemic, I’ve learned so much from Rhys & Taylor about Tinnitus. My mom is suffering from it real bad right now so I feel all little bad because I will be watching like a hawk and asking questions if I think they aren’t taking care of it. I’m an adult who has ears smaller than my teenager nieces and nephews. I have my own ear issues so my doctors don’t like when I ask questions because of these two lovely gentlemen sharing their wisdom with us all.

Each of the audiologists on social media have their own strengths. I never considered Taylor as anything but a top notch practitioner because he is the King of Curettage. I think of Rhys, Taylor, Conor, Neel and Richard as the Fab Five. You are all extremely skilled (so we see interesting videos) and you each have an aspect of audiology that you share with us as teaching moments. Mad respect for all of you. I respect how your approach considers the patient's history. The fastest approach may not be the most comfortable for specific patients, so extra points for taking a few extra moments with a slightly slower approach to ensure patients are comfortable.
