The conditional probability of A given B is the chance of A occurring only within the sample space of B. In contrast, the unconditional probability of A is the chance of A occurring within a 100% sample space.
A and B are independent if the conditional probability of A given B is the same as the unconditional probability of A. The occurrence of B does not affect the occurrence of A.
