The weeds will be cut only if they are within range of whirling weeder ...now here it seems you were more concerned about weeds by circling tjr weeder above weeds hardly touching it. I tried this technique long time back it works better and efficacy is good in some cases ....pretty clean too...I even used brake cable wire of cycle instead of thread and it was too good. But works well only on weaker grass patches or soft bushes.

Doesnt work. The cable ties break off very quickly. It looks good but in reality it doesnt work.
