If you have to mark which way the blade goes you have no business removing or sharpening one.

I sharpened the blades on my mower for the first time since owning it (2 years). Such a satisfying cut now.

I've sharpened my blades like this for years, but only recently realized the importance of the cutting angle. My blades gradually worked themselves to a 45 degree cutting edge and didn't cut well at all anymore. I reworked the edges to 35 degrees and wow! A cheap digital angle finder is the way to go

Flap discs are one of my all time favorite tools. They make so many types of jobs go so much faster.

Love your advice and content on ALL of your past DIY yard care vids. I'm in Tampa, and have rehabbed my yard based upon your info. My neighbors are amazed at the transformation. Still battling torpedo grass. Don't forget to correctly torque the blade mounting bolt. Thanks again!!!

As a former municipal mechanic I would use nothing more than a bench grinder followed up with a double bastard file. The Parks department loved me so that they would line up and wait for my service.
Not bragging~ just showing you proper tool selection is where the success lies...

Including more information about the nail and how to balance the blade maybe helpful information as well.. so for those who are unfamiliar, here is my quick two cents. Once on the nail the blade should sit at or near level. If not, remove small amounts of material from the blade on the low side (the side that is lowest) until it is at or near leave. If you skip this step you will have a vibration. If the balance if way off it's possible to damage your mower.

I am so glad to know that my family and i do not sharpen our mower blade only because a while ago my younger brother was mowing on an elevation and he slipped and slid foot first into the mower blade and thankfully it was just a scary big cut on the side of his bigtoe and not even a break or fracture, if that blade was sharpened i couldn't imagine what would have happen that day if that blade was sharp.

My Dad told me to do most of what you did, but when it came to the angle grinder he just said "grind the shit out of it and when it looks like it's sharp, it's sharp"

Some use a balancing spindle or pyramid shaped balancer, but I use a nail or screwdriver, & those have worked out well for me as long as they are evenly parallel with the ground.
Spin it slowly a few times, then when the blade stops level, it is balanced close enough.

Man people in the comments don’t like him marking it. It’s his own mower, he can do as he pleases. I typically sharpen a few blades all at once for neighbours etc so mine are all labelled up cuz we’ve all got different blades… and I’m looking to avoid messing it up. Even if there’s only one way to put it on I like knowing it’s right when putting it on rather than fumbling around.

I spent 2 years at a saw shop. You can sharpen a lawnmower blade pretty fast with nothing but a flat file

An angle grinder gets the blade hot and can mess the heat treat up. I use a 2 inch twist lock sanding disk on a 90° die grinder. I've tried many different ways over the years and this gives the best result imo.

The last part about balancing seemed really important and was really brushed over

Thank you!! I really appreciate this education and detailed instructions! It does look simple and I don’t think there is any harm in identifying the direction of the blade; that’s a good thing!🥰

If you color the edge with the marker, you make sure you have the correct angle.
