For most average Joes, no need to go crazy with the blade. It’s not supposed to be razor sharp anyway unless you like sharpening the thing a dozen times a year. I’m obsessive about my rider mower but I’m weird and take too much time messing with it. For most, the blade is fine using a $10 Amazon kit. Make sure it’s balanced… almost more important than being super sharp. Also, when I did do the whole push thing, I’d give these pointers and say it’s just as important- 1, clean and maintain the magneto. Rust and crap build up and cause friction in there slowing your blade. 2, change the oil to ensure it’s the correct viscosity. 3, GREASE the wheels! Nothing like pushing a mower that feels like the wheels have brakes engaged. 4, clean the six pounds of rotting grass off under and around the deck to not only keep it from rusting but it’s just more weight you have to lug around! Also, swap out the fuel filter, change/clean the plug, replace the muffler, clean the dang air filter, grease the throttle cable. After all that, put a for sale sign on it and park it in the front yard. While the lines of people start gathering around your beautiful specimen rubbing their chins and nodding their heads with admiration, , jump on Craigslist and find a lawn crew that will cut you a discount to do it for ya. After all that, you can still get an angle grinder out and sharpen an old blade because we all know the only reason to use a grinder is because it makes sweet ass sparks. I have no idea why I just wrote all this. Anyone reading this comment by me is way more qualified around a lawn mower than I am!

I've seen multiple videos where people say it takes well over 5 minutes with on of these. Get yourself a $20 angle grinder and get it done in 20 seconds

I’ve seen so many videos say this device sucks. I’ll stick with my angle grinder

I clamp my blade in a vise and use a 40-grit flapper wheel mounted in a drill.

Does this actually work? I saw a lot of mixed reviews, but I mostly saw more negative

Is there a certain angle to hold it at? Or just straight down the middle of the blade¿ Please help

and if its not balanced ? do you keep grinding on the heavy side ?

If I test to make sure the blade is level, and it’s not, what am I supposed to do? I guess shave more metal off the heavier side, right?

Well...how do you balance the blade if it is out of balance???

I could probably drive to Home Depot, buy a grinder and flap wheel, then sharpen my blades faster than that must work.
