Nissan Won't Start Push Button Start 2018 Altima SR and Other Makes and Models Part 1 of 2

On Most Push button start cars they will require the application of the brake pedal to be depressed before it allows you to start the car or truck with a push of the start button..even after you have checked the car battery itself, battery in the Key Fob , neutral safety switch gone bad or even thinking its a starter..before you go that far..check your brake lights..with no brake lights on when you depress the brake pedal means the brake switch did not see the application of the pedal and with that it will Not allow the car to start..this was done so no little kid can just hop behind the steering wheel and copy what you do and start the car up and put it in gear..you need that brake application..follow along as I Troubleshoot this for Ya..Enjoy...then watch Part 2 for the replacement..
also watch this video..remember bad connections can give you a false reading of a starter or battery gone bad

Holy shit, you are the MAN!!!! Thank you! I replaced my battery and was still having the issue. Called around and people suggested bad Starter, bad Alternator, yadda yadda. Reach beneath the steering column and wiggle the brake switch to get the brake light to turn on and start the car. Until you fix the switch you can hopefully get a couple more drives out of it by wiggling it a bit. Try a few times if the first time doesn't work. Sometimes the brake vacuum can get used up as well since we have to hit the brake while engine is off to start it.

Great video! I also watched another one right afterwards that tells you why the problem occurs.

There is oxidation in the connector/plug that you can clean out. It seems as if you can unplug the connector and remove black half from the grey half and clean off the copper tab.

Put it back together and it'll work. Of course you can buy a new one from Nissan for $75 but try this first. Both videos are awesome and I learned a lot from both, thank you gentlemen!

My parent's car wouldn't start with the exact same issue after driving me to uni when I overslept, and this helped
Although we did have to call for a jump start, at least we didn't waste money changing both the battery and the switch

08 altima manual shift. Similar switches under clutch. There are 2! One is more visible than the other. Reach upward in line with clutch and you'll see 2nd switch

2019 Nissan Pathfinder, just had the Switch Assy Stop Lamp replaced, good thing I have an extended warranty. They had a recall for the same model but 2013/15 for this same problem, probably using the same crappy switch.
