Beautiful video! Polished & professional. Distro reviews are sometimes boring, but not this one. I watched it to the end. Can't wait to test drive MX 23.

I totally agree with the vertical panel. Some people would say "it's what makes MX unique." Well, I want ease of use, sensibility and familiarity over "unique". LOL

MX Linux was originally created by the team primarily for their own use. As a number of the devs use it for their daily work, the vertical panel was used so that more space was available for document creation.
With regard to systemd, MX Linux does make it available for those programs that need it, using something called systemd-shim. It just doesn't use systemd as the default init. This provides users with the best of both worlds.

Nice rundown of the OS. Probably not leaving Arch anytime soon, but I will remember this one when making recommendations.

I have used Linux Mint off and on for years. I am tempted to try MX Linux but I am a major fan of Cinnamon.

I've been using MX for 2 years, great Distro !! About the gaming part, Rockstar made an update to their launcher preventing Linux users to run GTAV ( steam ), and Lutris is better than Bottles 💯🔥 great Video !

I love the vertical panel. I've been using vertical panels for years, also on other linux distributions. It gives more usable screen area in most applications.

I think they should keep the vertical panel. It's what makes MX distinct against other distros that use XFCE, like Ubuntu's use of GNOME with having a vertical panel by default as well.

Coming from Windows, used to not like Xubuntu having the panel at the top by default either. But quite quickly no longer cared when i figured out how to customise the desktop, how things move around, and how it can also be used with Plank.

EDIT: Regarding the distinction, i was referring to the first impression you get based on the distro appearance that can draw some to your distro. Not its unique feature set or preinstalled programs you find after exploring the distro deeper.

Though ironically, a different appearance from most other distros might just lead to users desiring to find out what makes the distro different with what it comes bundled with in this regard!

I still think they should keep the vertical panel. I like it.

I discovered MX Linux today. As a past Mepis fan, I was hoping MX would include what was so great about Mepis. After watching this video, it looks like it does. Downloading now for review.

The vertical task bar is prob the most sensible. With almost all the monitors being wide screens, vertical space is more precious, so making the bar vertical saves more vertical space.

Whatever desktop I use on Linux or on MacOS, I always make the dock/bar vertical to save vertical space.

I remember using mx linux xfce as my first distro on an external hard drive. My sister unplugged it while it was running and killed the hard drive. I remember learning vim and basic terminal commands on it. It's a really good distro and one of my favorite linux distro I've used in my linux career. If anyone is trying to ditch ubuntu and that stuff on there, you should give this one a try.

Distrowatchs #1 ranking is not particularly meaningful. It definitely isn't a claim to most common use or popularity, no matter how great an OS it is. So I hope any 'newcomers' who don't understand Distrowatchs 'ranking' don't get the wrong impression.
