Coil shocks had already proven themselves in the 90's. I'm still regularly riding an OG Z1 Bomber and RS Super Deluxe and absolutely love it. It's taken air cans decades to catch up, much like it's taken decades for digital cameras to be comparable to a good film camera, or flat panel display technology to produce the same colours as our old school CRTs.... we got it right the first time.

Thanks Mate, I have been watching videos on setup of coil for 3 weeks and finally have a great understanding of how to setup a coil. I am new to the coil and the bike company asked my rider with gear weight and said they were going setup the suspension. I have now ordered new heavier coils for both my Ohlins and my Rock Shox coils as I didn't feel that the bike was as good as it could be even with adjustments. I took it back to zero checked your video twice first I got a great understanding of the setup and the second time was to take notes and to pile drive it into my memory. I had watched other videos but the setup never felt right until using your method with details you include that others have left out

I pre load 1 turn on Ohlins, no rattles and small bump compliance is very good bacause the more preload you have the higher the force required before the shock begins to move. highly recommend the vorsprung videos for explanations . Loctite purple is good for stopping a coil adjuster in place without going too mental, its almost a gel level anti vibration substance so not a biggy to undo by hand.

All my full sus bikes (DH bikes) I run coils. Coils = <3. They just feel much better then an air shock, small bump feel etc.

Great video Doddy! Love these videos and if I do go on a full-sus later on I might think going to a coil shock

Oh dear, 2 turns minimum preload for that shock Doddy, its even written on the collar, surprised the spacer under the bottom out bumper removal hack to increase travel wasn't mentioned.

Useful video, wish you had covered the issue of rockshox springs being quite loose fitting. I find I have to run 3/4 turns of pre-load otherwise the spring just rattles too much when it's not under load, or I'm un-weighting the bike

Thank you Doddy for informative video, Ive just converted to coil and the explanation on setting sag and rebound really helped. Now she's sweet. SB130

I'm whating for this topic a long time, please more about coil shox!! Could you make a video about coil forks too? Are the "expensive" coil shox better than air shox on the downhills??

Having cane creek coil shock fitted on efocus jam plus rocshox lyric forks can't hardly wait got to admit it's not just the difference in the ride, its also the cool look my ole dad always said if it looks right itself it will be. I've based a lot on that way off thought had a few gremlins to zap but nothing ventured 😈.
