The Holy spirit gave me the most amazing comparison the other day of this exact topic... the same way the end times events are referred to as “birth pains” as a woman in Labour, so to the coming of the Son of man does not have a specific date, the same as a woman in Natural Labour ( not induced), you will know when she is due, but the child can come earlier or later, the birth of a Child is (i believe) a divinely appointed time by God (which only He knows), the same as the coming of Jesus (the same way a woman knows when she is due, we will know the season when he is near)

The "not knowing" also alludes the ancient Hebrew wedding, when the bride had to be ready for her bridegrooms coming since only the Father of the groom knew when the wedding was.
I see it as beautiful wedding language that our Groom is coming, and we must be ready, for we don't know when our wedding day is coming.

No one will know the day or the hour (not even the Son or God's holy angels, but only the Father), but those who are truly His will most definitely know the SEASON of His coming.

There's also this: the Feast of Trumpets was the only feast that was referred to in Jesus's day as the feast where "no one knows the day or hour" due to it falling on the new moon. People had to be prepared but didn't know when it would officially commence until it was announced after two witnesses reported spotting the new moon. He may be telling us the exact season when He will return.

We may not know the day or the hour, but the generation that sees all the signs given ( some key signs being the abomination that causes desolation, a time of Great Tribulation, cosmic signs in the heavens, etc. etc.), will KNOW the 2nd coming is imminent.
