Master Your AYESHA (3 Essential Tips) - Pole Dance Tutorial

When I was trying to get my Ayesha for the first time, it took a while! You have to be patient and keep on practising. There were three tips which REALLY helped me master the Ayesha pole move and took me from not being able to do it, to me being able to consistently hold my Ayesha!

I now like to pass these on to my students at the pole studio to help them get their Ayesha much more quickly than it took me!

These tips are:

1 - KEEP YOUR BOTTOM AWAY FROM THE POLE

When you're ready to take your legs off the pole, make sure that your bottom is as far away from the pole as you can get, while keeping your head close to the pole. This will help you get a stronger push and pull with your arms. In an arms-only pole move like the Ayesha, having a strong combined push and pull is essential!

2 - LOOK UPWARDS TOWARDS THE CEILING

This tip is crazy simple but it made ALL the difference for me (and now my students). When you're in your Ayesha position, spot a point on the ceiling and keep looking at it. This will help you find and maintain your balance while you master the tipping-point of your Ayesha. As you get more confident with this pole move, you can then start to look around!

3 - PUSH DOWN WITH YOUR "TOP ARM" LEG!

While your legs look like they're both doing the same thing in the Ayesha position on the pole, they shouldn't ACTUALLY be working the same. If your left arm is your top arm, then your left leg should be pushing down towards the ground in your Ayesha position. This will help stop you from falling out of the position before you're ready to exit the move!

Give these tips a try, and let me know if you have any questions...

The biggest thing that helped me learn the split-grip ayesha is to make sure you're holding most your weight with your top arm and your arm stays slightly bent. if you try to just hang with your top arm straight then you'll fall out easily and/or hurt your shoulder. It took me a good.... 7 years of trying and failing before I figured that out and could do it reliably.

Thank you! I actually only started today, from handspring (with help). It went surprisingly well, but the balance was off in exactly the way you described so next training I'll try to descend down into it using your tips ❤

Just started on this move and wanted some tips. Like the idea of the head looking up to assist with the balance.

If I'm very dominant right-handed should I have my right or left hand at the top? I did an inverted D last night and held it with my left hand at the top. I'm following all of your instructions but I feel like my left hand at the top is going to slip off the pole and I'm going to fall. I did manage to hold my Ayesha 0.5 seconds like you said though LOL... I'm 61 years old and just started pole dancing a year-and-a-half ago. So much fun and you have been so much help! I go to you for everything!

Did it in a few tries with the top right arm, but fell off balance when I did the other side. Gonna try the leg pushing trick. Thank you!

My top hand (dominant hand) always slips off the pole! the balance is fine but even in my D position my top hand always slides off the pole.

This is a move I struggle with but I get better each try. I just need to stop leaning heavily to one side and thus losing my balance.

Just started working on Ayesha and this video has the best explanation I’ve heard so far. Thank you!
Do you always keep your top arm slightly bent?
