I wish when I first started on social media, someone had a guide like this for artists as to how much or little they can do to maintain their social media page. In this video, I'm gonna break down what I think DID NOT work for me from my experience, as I think sharing your work online as an artist is so much more different than being a "regular influencer."

Absolutely agree about reels, I used to post pics 90% of the time getting 70-80 likes per post (sometimes 100+), only doing reels when I liked the trend, but then I tired to make more reels to engage more people, and yeah, my follower count went up, but interaction with my posts whet absolutely downfall, and I started to get 20, max 30 likes on posts, and 99% of people who followed me through reels were just ghost followers, who didn’t show any activity on my page, so I basically had to start from scratch and still trying to get back to how it was before 😵‍💫

When it comes to figuring out how to make money with art, I've basically been a fish flip flapping around on the beach, with no idea how to get back into thee ocean.
I tried social media before when I was 26, and ended up quitting a year after that, because of burn out trying to get followers. I don't blame the Algorithm. It was my fault I failed.
I'm 29 now, and I'm very hesitant to give social media another try. I recognize the fact you need to make content for the viewer and not for yourself. But trying to figure out how to dance the right way to get attention is soul draining.
And then after all that effort, you could still end up getting nowhere, because there is some luck involved unfortunately.
I used to have an artist friend on there, who started gaining traction after one of her posts did well. She had no idea why that specific drawing did well. I can only suspect either someone famous shared it, or she accidentally did something that lined up with some random event.
Who the hell knows lol. Another issue, is that your audience may not be interested in wanting to hire you for a commission. Or to go to your website. You need to be careful with the type of people you are attracting to your page. You could have 100k followers and be broke.
You really got to go in expecting to fail quite often. Maybe make more then one Instagram account, and just hope you dance the right way with one of them someday.

Thanks so much for this! It really reinforced a few things I'd just started noticing, particularly with the reels. I've been trying to reassess how I approach social media, and this video was a helpful place to start 😊

This may be an odd request, but could you give us advice on how to make the Instagram carousels? I haven't figured out how to make them work with my content, but I'd love to give those a try on my page...

hey mew im about to start my small shop, im gonna star naking content about characters i like and comics and other stuff, this is also like my last project before graduating uni, im a little scared, scared that i start drawing what i like and my whole body has been saying to give it a try, to give it my best try and that nobody really likes it, i know that what matters most is doing what im passionate about, and im in a really comftarble possition right now, i live with my parents, but still, its fucking scary thinking that nobody will like it, and that i might hurt all of my chances getting a god job in a future. Any advice?

Look, you gotta do what you gotta do to earn your living, and I respect you for that. But I miss how your channel was back in the day when I first discovered you in Jan-Feb of 2020, when you were still super foul-mouthed and told the bishes to stay hosome. (I know you had to change that for your corporate work, I get it) Now you're just... well, blunt as it is to say, you're kind of a shill now. Ffs, you use an app to automate your IG DMs! It's not about engaging directly with people and sparking a true connection between them and you + your work, it's about pleasing the algorithm in the name of maintaining relevance on a social platform. Adam Duff gave some fantastic advice in one of his recent videos; "Follow your passions and everything else will fall into place, " and what applies here, "Don't take advice from artists who aren't where you want to be." I wanna make comics and stuff too, but I don't wanna be like you. You're about being in the corporate world and following the trends, and I'm about railing against those same trends in the underground. As artists, we're cut from different cloths. We're from different worlds.

Despite that, you've inspired the shit out of me over the years, and I wish you all the best because your art is amazing and you deserve to follow your dreams all the same, regardless of whether I agree with your approach or not. Stay hosome, bish ❤

I struggle with actually posting. I post mostly stories on my IG. I work full time so I find it hard to actually create my art AND post. I have only 397 followers 🤣 and I think that's on me. Trying to figure out a happy medium
