Members of the massed bands of the Household Division fainted during a rehearsal for next weekend's trooping the colour parade.

Footage shows a trombonist attempting to play on after falling to the ground, but then led away. In the background, another soldier could be seen being carried away on a stretcher. Sweltering heat spread across the UK, with temperatures hitting 30C, marking the hottest day of the year so far.

I always feel so sorry for when this happens to any of the guard. The uniforms are hot enough on a spring day, but in a heatwave … wow, just unbearable.

I’m happy to hear the applause for this soldier. Kinda surprised the audience noticed him even from distance

I was there it was brutally hot for the guardsmen, 10 men and women were stretchered off all together, it's not just standing at the parade for 2 hours they have to march there up the Mall and back, they all did an amazing job.

I don't understand why they can't modify their clothes for different weather conditions? Surely, there must be a design that is dignified but also practical. It doesn't need to be radically different, perhaps using other fabrics can make it more tolerable during heat. Respecting "tradition" doesn't mean accepting impracticality when it can easily be solved.

A bear fur hat in this heat must be unbearable. He got back up, he's a trooper. Not just in the army but in life.

Fair play to him for getting back up and attempting to play on.

That is a very short step from actual torture. Unless they can figure out a way to air condition those enormous fur hats there needs to be a max temperature those soldiers can perform in.

Guards are just as human as all of us... And in life, NOTHING IS PERFECT... I wish him a speedy recovery

The fact he was determined to get back up and play along with the rest after collapsing....that's commitment for you!

Meanwhile Asians be chilling at 45°C. I, personally, live in an area with 35°C as a standard

In the 21st century, in the heat, in a bearskin or faux leather, it's ridiculous to parade around in the sun like this. Let Charles and William stand out dressed the same, then when they collapse, they'll think about what makes sense and what doesn't.

Poor guys, heard it was REALLY hot. Also hearing the audience applaud must have been somewhat nice for him not knowing what happened.

He got up to keep going! Total respect.
