Do you think the military rules should be relaxed so this doesn't happen, or is it necessary?

I feel for the guards. Being in a military formation is extremely tough.

It is not easy to stand at attention for long periods of time, especially when wearing heavy clothes and a huge bearskin on your head. One can get easily dehydrated and as such, faint. It is not a laughing matter and can be fatal if not treated promptly. Kudos to these soldiers for such gruelling task! It is NOT as easy as it looks.

That’s just sick that they must “faint to attention” and risk breaking their faces on the ground.

They have a difficult and uncomfortable duty. I know I couldn't do it. Total respect to them.

In the US Army they teach you not to lock your knees when standing at attention. This can restrict blood flow causing you to pass out. Instead they bend their knees slightly when at attention.

"oh shoot I'm about to faint, better make sure I fall at attention...."

I have fainted twice in my life. Both times there was zero forewarning. This way of handling it is beyond ridiculous.

This is one of the most ridiculous protocols I've ever encountered.

I'm in the army cadets and whenever I'm doing remembrance parade, I get told if you feel like you are going to faint you should take a knee as a signal then medics will come assist you.

England had to deal with a nasty heat wave recently, standing around in those hot uniforms must’ve been even more difficult than usual.

Flex the knees, wiggle toes, pivot buttocks, breathe slow and deep breath.
Hydrate enough to prevent a rest room break within three hours. Always worked for me.

The other tough thing is that blood flow is restricted when your knees are locked. If you've ever had a job involving mostly standing, they'll usually tell you to keep one leg casually bent and switch off because you limit the flow every time you straighten & lock them

I have fainted several times, not only when standing but also when I was sitting in school. I was the teacher, sitting at the desk marking the attendance roll. The last time I fainted though, I ended up with two black eyes, broke two bones in my nose, deviated the septum, broke my cheekbones in 6 pieces, broke my lower jaw, broke three teeth, broke four bones in my wrist and two in my knee. Gosh, I sure looked like I had been beaten up. My wrist and leg was in plaster for 13 weeks, my jaw wired up for 4 weeks. I’d never be a great Queens guard

My dad was in the Coldstream Guards for 32 years. He guarded the queen on a number of occasions and has done the Trooping of the Colour.

The fact that people are willing to put themselves in the position to bust their face, while guarding people who only have to wave at us in public is a testament to how dumb our world is.

Why are these poor soldiers being tortured like this. So disturbing.

I hope he is okay-no broken teeth, brain injuries, etc. Praying.
