Thanks for all the wonderful videos for this 87 yr old armchair pilot.

It puts a smile on my face that you are demonstrating these VOR checks in the general area where I fly for my flight training CCC, KGON, etc.

Excellent little tidbit!

My CFI used to do VOR checks during our flights once I got to the XC phase and, while I knew what she was doing, I never really gave it much thought.

Now, as an owner, I figured out the quickest and easiest way for me to do VOR checks nearly every flight--an airway crosses directly over my home airport and it happens to also be the radial for the VOR-A approach so easy to remember the frequency and radial. So when I'm doing proficiency flying, I include a VOR check. Keeps me ready to go.

Now for my IFR... :)

Love this. Very simplified and quick explanation of each VOR check.

I love your videos. They keep me fresh when I don’t get much time in the air

The FAA has removed specific airborne checkpoints (see the current editions of the Chart Supplement; none that I can find still lists airbone checkpoints). Each of those specific checkpoints had to be certified, and apparently the flight check folks have their hands full verifying new and periodically re-checking existing approaches, airways, and other procedures and facilities that have been added with the advent of GPS-based navigation. Airborne VOR checks are now described in AIM 1−1−4. VOR Receiver Check: "4. If an airborne checkpoint is not available, select an established VOR airway. Select a prominent ground point, preferably more than 20 NM from the VOR ground facility and maneuver the aircraft directly over the point at a reasonably low altitude above terrain and obstructions."

Chuck Yeager logging that VOR check for ya 😎😁

Even Chuck Yeager needs to do VOR checks! In a single VOR plane with no check points around, is the only option the Victor airway check?

good video but what do you mean by degrees. like how many degrees the cdi is displaced when set to the radial or how many degrees on the obs when the cdi is centered

Another great video. Question, so the VOR check is only required if we plan to navigate with the VOR. What about if we plan to shoot an ILS? Since it uses the same equipment, must or should we do a VOR check within the preceding 30 days if planning to fly an ILS approach? I can't find anything that specifically addresses the ILS. Thanks!

If you do a VOR test at a VOT, and you see that there is -4 reading when you fly in the air do you have to take that into account?

heyy awesome videos, quick question, how can I get the garming set up into the cessnas in FS2024?

Okay, with the very limited number of VOR Test locations, what happens if you are never near one?

So with 2 VORs you can navigate anywhere in the world without satnav.

V16 is defined by the radial 057 degrees. I was watching on my phone and had a hard time seeing the chart.

If you have a Garmin GI275 as the CDI do you still need to perform the VOR check?

Call out to ILG! Woot. Not really. A ridiculously expensive airport that pretty much hates GA. lol. Just happens to be near my house. I’ve done this check at ILG. Nice and easy.
