Hi. In this video we look at one of the aircraft's navaid that is in use since 1960's: the VOR. We look at what is a VOR; how does a VOR Transmit signals; the indications given in the cockpit; how to identify VORs; and the uses of VOR.

Dme gives slant range and it's paired with vor.As it's slant range so we can find out the aircraft from the station or to the station.

Close but...

Omni means omni. It does not mean that the VOR transmitting station is transmitting discrete beams radiating from the station.

As you described, a vor-equipped aircraft's receiver can calculate what radial it's on (or trying to find) and can calculate to/from info; it does so by receiving signals that are broadcast in all directions from the VOR transmitting station.


Also to/from doesn't mean towards or away from the VOR location, it means that the OBS is set to a radial that is away from or towards the transmitting station.
