Summary:

This webinar is suitable for social workers in all areas of practice, regardless of their theoretical framework and intervention approach. This presentation is geared toward increasing practical skills for clinical social workers. Participants will learn how to differentiate between the often-similar symptoms of grief and depression; understand, using theory and a case example, the process for treating complex cases with multiple diagnoses; and develop skill in treating complicated grief from within a narrative framework. Participants will be provided with techniques and tools they can use in their everyday interventions. During the end of the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to share their thoughts about this challenging area of practice and ask questions.

Elizabeth Sheppard Hewitt MSW, RSW
Elizabeth Sheppard Hewitt is a Clinical Social Worker III at Terrace Clinic, an outpatient adult mental health clinic with Eastern Health in St John’s, NL. She holds BSW (1992) and MSW (1998) degrees from Memorial University. For more than 25 years she has been employed primarily as a clinical healthcare social worker, within the subspecialties of child/adolescent and adult mental health, nephrology and rehabilitative medicine. Elizabeth is a past Co-Editor of The Canadian Social Work Journal and looks forward to the inclusion of her chapter “Differentiating Grief and Depression” in the upcoming Routledge publication Techniques of Grief Therapy 3 in 2018. She lives in St. John’s, NL with her social worker husband and two sons.
