Every Way to Cut Cheap Wood (39 Methods)

Join YouTube maker Louis Weisz as he attempts to cut a 2x4 in every way possible. Which method is the best? Can there be a best method? What does 'best' even mean? Who says what's best? I wood say they're all pretty nifty (besides the ones that aren't).

Thanks again to the people at the Columbus Idea Foundry for helping with the turboplane and resistance burning, and to my dad for helping with the lathe!

I used clips from these videos at the end, hit the links to see more:

It’s genuinely blowing my mind that nobody realizes that this is an extremely faithful parody of those every way to cook an item videos lmfao

This is genuinely also a good introduction to a lot of cutting tools in a shop in a short time

This is one of my favorite videos. Period. I've rewatched it over the years and it still holds up. I've been thinking & I think that any of the ones that were said that got stuck - the steak knife for example - may be possible. If you cut a wider hole like done with the turbo plane, you'd be able to fit the blade further into the 2x4, and you might eventually cut it. The way to cut anything is to make a wide enough cut.

“It gets stuck as soon as you make progress.”
Relatable.

If you've got patience like a goddamn rock, you can cut a 2x4 with literally anything

In the past, when a timber was called a 2x4 [or "two-by-four"], it actually measured 2 inches by 4 inches. Now, most timber is milled and planed to give it a little more of a finished look, and a little more of a consistent size and profile

Here's an idea: cutting a 2x4 using sarcasm

"Next, let's try a jigsaw"

I was literally recommended this video after watching one about the movie Saw, so my immediate reaction was "oh, are you gonna force the 2 by 4 to make a difficult decision involving losing body parts for it's survival?"

You can "cut" wood with an axe, by angekling it at 45° So you can kind of cut wood. You get a spike, but you get through it.

This was a great video and even though it's kind of old, I'd love to see it revisited in the form of maybe, how to put a hole in a 2x4. This was really informative though. I knew some of the types of saws but I've always wanted to at least learn what the other types are called. And it's good to know I was misusing at least a couple of names.

Here's a couple of things you can try if you absolutely hate yourself:
1. A rock (without fire this time)
2. Your bare hands
3. Your nails (infinite pain)
4. Biting through it (actually don't even try, just use a beaver instead)
5. Brass knuckles (if you're a gangster)
6. Corrosive chemicals (why)
7. A lense (like a laser cutter, but slow and painful)
8. Rope (you'll need a lot of it)
9. Rats (like beavers, but more universal)
10. Karate chop
11. A sword (or any other melee weapon)
12. A shovel
13. A pickaxe
14. Basically any sharp or blunt object, just beat it 'till it snaps
15. A signalling flare (fire, but worse)
16. Explosives (fire, but better)
17. Antimatter (ight imma head out)
18. Your knees (knees of others are also an option)
19. A screwdriver
20. Scrap metal (if you REALLY want to suffer)
There, have fun with that.

2:38 I totally agree with his view of the scroll saw. I don't particularly love them, either and would rather use a band saw.
