Rav4 Prime. Split between urban driving (40%) and weekend escapes to the mountain, I am averaging 54.5 mpg combined electric/gas. In essence, the Prime is a hybrid on steroids. Literally. I can easily pass trucks and cars on extended mountain climbs, overtaking is always a breeze. Around town, running chores, going to the gym and commuting to work, I'm all-electric. So it's a win-win for the environment as well as my pocket. The only thing better would be a Prime with 100 mile electric range rather than the 46 miles I currently average.

Thanks for the litres per 100km conversion! I hope others would do this too. Greetings from finland, europe :)

Pretty good analysis. Not being an SUV person, because of their rollover propensity, my pick would be the Honda Insight. The handling of the Insight is very "Civic like" (because basically it IS a Civic) which means the handling is EXCELLENT! Plain & Simple. I've done seat time in one and the Insight will most likely replace my current 2020 daily driver at this point.

The Acura RLX Hybrid is awesome. They have no issues, plenty of power, and excellent on fuel.

Excellent summary. I think the Ioniq makes a compelling case for itself, so perhaps should have been included. And the Prius you showed was of the plug-in variety.

I have a 18 RLX Sport Hybrid (377hp/342tq, +28 mpg) and 19 MDX Sport Hybrid (321hp/289tq, +26 mpg). Acura does a sporty application of the hybrid vehicle and uses a similar system just like in the 2nd Gen NSX awd system. Acura 3 electric motor versions are not the typical hybrids you get from other brands that focus on mpgs. Acura version is focused on performance and handling that happen to get the same city & hwy mpgs (dual clutch transmission, electronic dampers, Sport+ mode, regen braking, tq vectoring, larger front brakes). Very fun to drive, all weather/all season capabilities, no extra maintenance required compared to similar awd vehicles, and looks just like a regular sedan/SUV from the outside. Hybrids work better in the southwest because there isn't a fast charging network available at every gas stop.

I just found out that my new AMG GLE 53 coupe is hybrid! 15 out of 450 hp is from an electric motor! I'm green now!! My eco-kids will be so proud...

I had a 2013 Prius and loved it I now have a 2016 RAV4 HYBRID and love it more though I do miss the better gas mileage I wanted an AWD

Toyota makes great hybrid cars and they have been doing it for a long time, but I was a little disappointed to see Honda CRV hybrid so far down on your list. I know it's a new build for Honda, but TFL (The Fast Lane) tested these two hybrid all wheel drive cars side-by-side and found that the CRV is more capable for off-road use. Plus, the naturally aspirated 2 liter engine will not have any oil dilution issues. It is also the most roomy of all the vehicles in this class. Time will tell which one is better.

Thanks for compiling the information, how about Hyundai Ioniq? Where would you put it in these top 10? I feel it comes with highend luxurious and tech features along with hybrid and better price

So many reviewers say the Accord Hybrid is better than the Camry Hybrid but I just can't agree. Toyota has been doing mainstream, volume selling hybrids longer than anyone and they've made these drivetrains nearly bulletproof. There's a reason you see Prius and Camry cabs in New York, Toronto, LA, and Vancouver with 300, 000 miles and they're just getting started! I'm not shooting down the Accord Hybrid, it's a nice car that I test drove, but the Camry has all the history and engineering to back it up. It also is a Camry, that means a lot to me as well.

I've had Prius, and Prius "V" (not 5) both top trims. Both Prius were way too slow and too many aggressive drivers out there hunting Prius down like a fugitive on the road. Well, I've repented and moved over to the Honda Clarity Plug In Hybrid Touring. Inside the lux feel is much better than Prius, needless to mention the Clarity has 212 horses running on the Sport Mode. Instead of sudden rabbit like jumped over me, I had some luxurious vehicles took extra looong time to pass me on the highway. When the aggressive pick up trucks pulled up ONE inch away from my rear bumper, they were totally surprised when I hit the "gas pedal" then "silently" flew out of their sights. Hahahaaa. Oh, one thing really bad is that Clarity Plug Ins are hard to find, at least when compared to my CR-V, which are all over like ants everywhere.

How long is the wait for a RAV4 hybrid? Dealerships here are divided. Some say 4 months, some say 6 mos.
