Piloting can be done from both terminals. In many episodes Data has piloted the Enterprise from his con.

Data is ops and navigation. Helm steers/pilots the ship along the plotted course provided by navigation. Geordi is at helm. Data is at the nav station. Data plots the course, Geordi executes it and pilots the ship, just like in TNG season 1. Worf would also occasionally take the ops and navigation station in season 1. He moved to security and tactical after Yar's death.

Everyone on the Enterprise bridge crew have universal skills. Yes they have a specialized role usually, but all of them are capable of doing this.

All of it can be done by either terminal. We see Data pilot through the cube at the console by the ready room, and then Cmdr Troi pilot to the away teams location from the other console. Just like 1701-E where the pilot terminal was destroyed, the other terminal was able to pilot.

Then you don't remember from the series itself either countcil, of either side of the captains chair can do the same thing pilot the Enterprise or scanning whatever they were looking at just most, of the time it's the council in front of Riker that does the piloting. But every once in a while Data chair does some flying.

Both terminals can be used to pilot the ship in the case one pilot is incapacitated mid battle the second terminal takes over all controls. Discovery was the same thing.

It's a throwback to the original. When this cast was last in this position on the Enterprise, Picard would do just what he did here... Tell Data to set course.

Thou doth protesteth too much. Data frequently piloted the Enterprise. And in this episode, Dr. Crusher quite capably operated the Tactical station.

Data’s piloting the ship through the innards of the Borg Cube was top-shelf fan service. That actually applies to the entire episode.

well at that point picard knows what his "Senior" Bridge personal can do with out question. plus they all went through additional training Geordi was in command track then got transferred to engineering . Data was a temp captain during the Romulan cloak and dagger mission with the vulcans .

I know what your saying, but it was setting up The data borg run, plus all stations can do limited other station functions by the tech manual of TNG. Even a data control pad can control a ship as well.but i get what your saying.

Geordi had to concentrate on the ship actually holding together. Data can plot a course just fine.

The bridge stations are customizable. You could pilot the ship from the tactical station or run scans at the helm. It's all possible.

If you're going by the 1st season, then Data and Geordi are in the wrong stations (though Data's in the correct one for the rest of the series).

And even though Geordi was promoted to chief engineer in the 2nd season, it does seem odd that Picard tells Data to set a course. Though that could be just muscle memory on Picard's part.

Yes, it bothered me too even though it’s not entirely inaccurate. The first few episodes of the end throughout the first season those positions were swapped and was operations. Also it makes sense in this situation for Jorge to be operations with all of his engineering experience.

Memory is why Picard asked Data. Besides, it was Data the pulled off the ROTJ Death star 2 maneuver to get the job done.

Data was the navigator . Laforge was the helmsman, Seems logical the navigator would plot the course.

What if comador georgie laforge transfered engineering engineering imputs over to the helm station. Someone had to monitor engineering and take on the mega borg complex in jupitor so there was no one at the enginerring station.

Actually he did not forget, Georgie used to be in engineering did I wasn't navigation and Crusher was the pilot. So he asked the navigator to enter the destination and the pilot confirm and fly

Because it's in the script. 😂😂 No, think of Data as the GPS and Geordi as the driver.
