Sunscreen 101 - How to apply sunscreen like a pro with this quick guide to maximise your protection and sharing some of the best sunscreens for face and body.

Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin. Ever since Gwyneth Paltrow shared with us her awful sunscreen application technique I have been inundated with requests to film a proper tutorial on how to apply sunscreen correctly.

Applying sunscreen to the face does not need to be challenging and there are some easy steps which can be taken to maximise the protection and make sure your applying sunscreen correctly.

I would love to know your favourite sunscreens for face so please leave me a comment below with any of your recommendations and check out my video on the tried, tested and verified sunscreens which you can trust.

Whether you go for a mineral sunscreen or a chemical sunscreen it is so important to apply the product correctly to ensure the right protection so please give this video a share and a like to support us in getting this message out there.

DISCLAIMER: The majority of professionals seem to agree that an SPF rating of 30 or higher is the minimum which should be used and represents the UVB blocking properties of the products. All products must also come with a UVA rating and generally the higher the SPF then the higher the UVA protection will also be. The ways in which UVA protection levels are identified on bottled differs from country to country and so I have focused on the UVB rating in this video but please also be mindful of UVA protection... sending you lots of love xxxx

The two dislikes have to be Gwyneth Paltrow and her PR team. 😂 Love these tips and recommendations, Rob!

Everyone please please remember your ears 👂! I just found out I have melanoma on my ear because I never put sunscreen on my ears. Please remember and be safe in the sun! ❤️💋☀️🧴

Someone was asking on the live yesterday about spf for where their hair parts. Well I just saw a video where Dr. Dray recommended the Supergoop Poof part powder for your scalp. It's a spf 45 mineral powder in a spray bottle!

Im actually one of the dry skin folks who likes the SPFs used by oily skin people. I absolutely hate the feel of sunscreen on my face, so anything that absorbs quickly and leaves that matte finish is my preferred product. I tried the Biore spf this week and I’m in love 😻

The most important video you will ever make, Rob. One can buy the best quality SPF, but if they don't apply enough product they won't be protected. When I know I'm going to spend the day outside, I only wear concealer so I can continue to reapply my SPF. My problem is that I have very sensitive eyes, and even my mineral sunscreen makes my eyes water. I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue? Thanks again, Rob... Bravo!!❤️🥰

Love this video 🥰 I hope anyone that saw her video and thinks that is the correct way to apply sunscreen then sees your video! I’m loving The Inkey List sunscreen at the mo. I love the slight tint in it as it makes it the perfect shade for me !! Xx

Hi Rob I'm currently using the paula's choice calm spf30 normal/dry on my hypersensitive, rosacea and eczema prone skin. it's a more hydrating mineral spf, although I use it over a moisturiser as I'm very dry.
I apply my spf in sections - forehead, eyes, cheeks and ears (both sides), nose and mouth/chin, neck/back of neck and then chest. I apply a different spf to both hands afterwards. I dispense a generous blob for each section and massage it in. I then wait 30 mins prior to applying any makeup, using the time to drink my coffee and finish getting dressed. I find applying in sections makes me conscious of the areas I'm applying it to and avoids skip areas. Best wishes.

Thanks so much!! ☘️🌷!! Make Prem is lovely! I’ve tried a 1/4 tsp approach bc I tended to use the least amount ... when I was using & loving way more pricey ones. So I rely on “budget” sunscreens now bc you’re so right, the cost really does effect. Have a good day Robert 😊!!

I love how this video comes out after Gwyneth Paltrow's disaster tips lol. Talking about UVA protection, Europe is the only continent that uses a PPD number. Asia uses PA rating, which can be confusing, because anything higher than PPD 16 is considered PA++++. The rest of the world uses "Broad Spectrum", which is much more confusing.

As a Southeast Asian guy, i feel like this is very concerning. Most brands aren't aware that the majority of Southeast Asians rarely burn, but easily tan. And most sunscreens that i've tried don't have a good UVA protection despite wearing a lot of them and reapplying very often. Bioderma and Mustela are the only brands that use a PPD rating here, and i decided to order Bioderma Photoderm Max Spray yesterday, because it has a PPD rating of 36. Hopefully it'll not only provide a great protection, but also feel good on the skin. It's super expensive, and i'm tired of spending a lot of money to try many sunscreens that i don't enjoy wearing.

Currently using NIOD Survival 30 (all thanks to your videos and recommendations 😊). Love it.
- antioxidant
- fragrance free
- cruelty free
- mineral protection
- tested and verified spf
- goes on like a charm
- and it’s from NIOD

What’s not to like!

Loved this video! I feel like I can share your videos with friends who want to start having a skincare routine!
However I personally find the "3 finger's length for face and neck" tip most helpfull, and since tapping is the best way I try to tap it as much as I can and then message bit by bit if there's any whiteness left.
