Wearing sunscreen is important for a variety of reasons ‼️

The primary reason is to protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays, which can cause sunburn, premature ageing, and even skin cancer.

When you’re out in the sun, your skin is exposed to two types of UV rays: UVA and UVB. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin and can cause premature ageing, while UVB rays primarily affect the surface of the skin and can cause sunburn. Both types of UV rays can contribute to the development of skin cancer over time.

To protect your skin from these harmful effects, it’s important to wear sunscreen every day, even on cloudy days. Sunscreen with a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 30 or higher can help block both UVA and UVB rays.

The one seen above is the Advanced Brightening UV Defense SPF 50 from @skinceuticals

✅ Suitable for all skin types
✅ Reduce the appearance of discolouration and age spots

These are the areas of the body that are most exposed to the sun, and therefore most vulnerable to the damaging effects of UV rays. Be sure to apply sunscreen liberally, and reapply it every two hours, or more often if you’re sweating or swimming.

if your eyes easily sting with sunscreen you can also just use sunglasses to protect the skin around your eyes

Use a gentle cleanser twice a day to get rid of dirt and oil, and ensure you apply sunscreen daily. After extensive testing, I chose littlllextra rice berry sunscreen and face wash. It works great for acne-prone skin. It doesn’t leave a white cast and is highly effective for extended periods. No side effects on skin. I’ve seen noticeable improvements in my skin after a year of use. I keep reordering this product. Go for it if you have sensitive skin. A must have

I’ve had MOHS surgery several times. I wish I would have had this education years ago. My skin cancers have all been in those sneaky areas. Hard to apply sunscreen. And the sun hits hard on them. 2 on my hairline, one on the inside corners of my eye/nose. And my chest. Keep educating. So important.

I've learned in chemistry class. Uni. After eight hours, S PF 50 has only reduced to spf30. So you do not need to reapply every two hours unless you're outside and or in the water.. So if you're indoors in an office... A light application thirty minutes before you leave home is just fine.. Or if you're gonna be out in the sun after work, then absolutely go ahead and refresh...

NO ONE I know would ever reapply sunscreen every 2 hours! The tube would be empty in 3 days and your skin would look so greasy and terrible.

A word of caution here. Speaking from experience, I would encourage a bit of discretion. If you do anything that will make sweat a lot, this can cause some serious eye discomfort as the sweat mingles with the sunscreen and gets in your eyes.

It’s inconvenient at times but it’s stuff like this that makes me soooo thankful for my melanin 🙏🏾

Reapplying every two hours sounds like a hustle. Is it really worth it?

Just don’t spend much time with that UV light on your eyes!! I once had to make an emergency visit to the hospital in the middle of the night when I decided it would be a good idea to put the free light I got into my aquarium, which I sat right next to for a few hours. Turned out to be a UV light meant for pond filters.. The pain took some hours to set in but was unbelievably bad when it did.

Use an spf lip balm though since regular sunscreen isn’t formulated for the lips and will likely irritate them

According to the National Cancer Institute, skin cancer is on the rise. Cases of melanoma in American adults has tripled since the 1970s. What’s more alarming is that the death rate from skin cancer has escalated sharply, doubling the number of deaths in the last 40 years.

Haven’t worn sunscreen in years. I dropped the “healthy” low fat diet, and now I eat tons of meat and butter. I haven’t gotten sunburned since despite spending hours/day every day in the sun. I also reversed my heart disease- fasting, lots of meat, and no added sugars or simple carbs.

I have an uncle who is the most fastidious person I have ever heard of in terms of avoiding direct sunlight. He puts on sunscreen every time he goes out, he wears hats everywhere, he limits his sun exposure to 15 minutes with everything covered, and he has had about 15 surgeries for skin cancer. If the sun was what caused skin cancer, he should be patient zero proving it. if the systematic application of a hypothesis does not work, the hypothesis is wrong. The sun is NOT the cause of skin cancer.
